Countdown by Lynette Eason

Thrilling

Countdown by Lynette Eason is a thrilling contemporary Christian suspense that I just could not put down. It is the fourth book in the Extreme Measures series but can be read as a stand-alone.

Once again, Lynette Eason has crafted a well thought out and executed plotline that has the reader glued and guessing as we try to join the dots. The action comes thick and fast as the past collides with the present.

All our choices have consequences, sometimes with far reaching effects. “She … wished she could go back in time to make different decisions.” We cannot alter the past but we can learn from our poor choices.

There is the theme of trust. Life has dealt some hard blows. A character prefers to trust no one but herself, not even God – but living life in isolation can be very lonely. She realizes she has to “consciously make the choice to trust God.” We can trust God with our lives. He will never let us down. Even when we don’t see Him working or feel His presence, God is there, walking beside us.

Keeping Christmas by Dan Walsh

Very Charming

Keeping Christmas by Dan Walsh is the most charming contemporary Christian Christmas novel as we join a couple in the run up to Christmas.

Grown up children living miles away, sees a couple celebrate Thanksgiving alone and now face the prospect of Christmas alone. This hits the wife hard as she spirals downwards. All her memories of Christmases past are tied up with her children. She finds it impossible to lift her spirits back up.

Memories can heal or pull one down. It all depends on how we view them.

We meet big hearted characters who practice self-sacrifice. Nothing is more important than family. Priorities are in the right place.

A Royal Christmas by Melody Carlson

A Fairytale For Adults

A Royal Christmas by Melody Carlson is a delightful festive offering.

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a charming new novella from Melody Carlson. A Royal Christmas is a fairytale for adults. It has all the elements of a traditional fairytale – a king, a wicked queen, a lost princess – and so much more, as we see God take centre stage.

We see that when all seems uncertain, we need to trust God.  We can trust His plans and His timing as He knows just what is needed and when.

Prayer is important. If in doubt – pray. If in celebration – pray. Pray at all times. God longs to hear from us. He will always answer. “You prayed about it?… It looks like God has flung the door wide open.”

A Quilt For Christmas by Melody Carlson

Absolutely Charming

A Quilt For Christmas by Melody Carlson is an absolutely charming contemporary Christian festive tale that will warm your heart.

Every year I look forward to Melody Carlson’s Christmas offering, they are always beautiful and heart-warming.

All the characters are well drawn and realistic. They are an eclectic mix from a four year old girl to two ladies who are nearly seventy.

Kind hearts gather to make a little girl’s wish for her mother’s Christmas quilt to come true. We see that you are never too old nor too young to learn new skills.

The warm atmosphere has a chill at times as a hurting character has let bitterness invade her heart. Past memories, rather than warming have the opposite effect and freeze a character’s heart. What will it take to thaw that frozen heart?
