A Child For The Reich by Andie Newton

Heart Breaking

A Child For The Reich by Andie Newton is a heartbreaking historical tale that consumed me from the start.

The story is fiction but based on fact. The Nazis stole upwards of 200,000 children from Nazi occupied territories and assimilated them into Germany as they had them adopted into Nazi families. It is truly heartbreaking.

This is a story of courage, determination and desperation. It is a mother’s search for her daughter. We witness a love that never gives up. It is a love that will do whatever is necessary with no thought to personal safety.

Andie Newton has perfectly captured the fear and desperation of the Czech mothers and grandmothers as the brown sisters descend on a town.

It was a time of pure evil – but not all Germans were Nazis. There were pockets of goodness, kindness and courage.

The Judas Tree by Amanda Jennings

Lasting A Lifetime

The Judas Tree by Amanda Jennings is a gripping contemporary psychological thriller that seeps into your very core.

It is tragic. It is heartbreaking. It is a powerful tale showing the affects of a traumatic childhood on adulthood. An event, so awful, it never leaves you. The timescale of a life is split into ‘before’ and ‘now’. There will never be an ‘after’.

A chance meeting as adults opens up terrible wounds as two characters find themselves returning to the scenes from childhood, in their heads. Others who were there have moved on.

We witness a marriage trying to recover from a miscarriage. The cracks in the relationship go far deeper.

A young man, mixed up as a child by a distant father and a boys boarding school, still believes the lies he was told that he is no good and not worthy of any good things in life. The voices from his childhood, echo in his mind, tormenting the adult he became.

Never Forget You by Fiona Lucas

A Beautiful Love

Never Forget You by Fiona Lucas is a powerful contemporary novel about love. It is a love that just sinks into your heart and soul. It is also about grief and finding yourself.

There is a great love that is selfless and just keeps on giving. Sometimes you meet a person and you just know that they are your soulmate.

With grief comes guilt. There is a guilt about things left undone. This guilts blindfolds a soul to all the good they have done.

We see characters who have unique gifts that need nurturing and not squashing. We see that these gifts can make a soul feel really alive.

Family is important. Family loves us and sometimes knows us better than we know ourselves.

There are the difficult themes of gaslighting and love bombing. The reader recognizes these from the outset, and our heart breaks for a character. We are crying out for an already fragile soul as the person becomes even more lost.
