Exciting And Well Executed

Elysium Tide by James R Hannibal is an exciting contemporary crime suspense that captured my attention from the start.

The main setting in Maui is very exotic and in complete contrast to a grey London. An ex-army vet and surgeon is sent to Maui for some r and r. It proves anything but as he is soon embroiled in the hunt to catch a killer, along with the local police lady. They make a dynamic duo after originally locking swords.

Elysium Tide is a fast-paced suspense with an intricately, well thought out and well executed plotline. The reader turns this way and that, trying to join the dots.

Life Flight by Lynette Eason

Life Flight by Lynette Eason is an absolutely marvellous contemporary Christian crime thriller and the first book in the Extreme Measures series. I cannot wait for the subsequent books.

The action is fast paced and more than a little creepy as we witness the hunt for an escaped death row inmate. There are many twists and turns. Twisted lives are strangely magnetised and drawn towards a serial killer as copycat crimes begin to appear.

The characters are all well drawn and realistic. The leading lady was brave and gutsy. There were creepy characters who made your blood run cold.

You never forget your first love no matter how many years have passed. There may be regrets in life, choices that have not worked out. What would you do if you could have a second chance at first love?

The reader sees the importance of retaining a spirit of adventure, no matter what your age. Life is for living and for exploring new places and having new adventures.

Sometimes we face crossroads in life and don’t know what to do – “Why don’t you try praying about it too.” Involving God in our lives is always a good idea. We need to pray and then listen for His voice.

A Place Of Community

The Secret Keepers Of The Old Depot Grocery by Amanda Cox is the most delightful Christian dual timeline novel that filled my soul with love.

The novel is set in present day and from 1965 working forwards. It is a story of family and love and life.

A character has been grieving her whole life for a boy who went to Vietnam and never returned. Life still kept turning and she had to learn to live again in spite of her grief. Grief never leaves us. We just need to find our way through it.

We witness the horrors of war in the lives of those who return. “How could they find normal after that? Love when they’d been baptized in hate.” Some lives buckle with PTSD and they escape through alcohol and drugs.

There is the theme of guilt. A character is drowning in it, carrying burdens that were never meant for her. “I’d become so tainted by darkness that I couldn’t feel the warmth of the sun anymore.”  It is time to let go and let God.
