The Heart Of The Midwife is a delightful collection of four Christian novellas that will warm your heart. They are all set at the end of the nineteenth century.
The themes are all similar as young women attempt to bring babies into the world. They meet various opposition from pompous men to aging women practicing voodoo. The love for the poor shines through as the young women become the eyes and ears, the hands and feet of Jesus. Faith is strong as God is able to guide us and protect us from our fears.
This is a positively charming quartet of tales.
Love’s Charm by Cynthia Hickey is an absolutely charming tale. I found the setting very reminiscent of Walnut Grove in Little House On The Prairie. The community pulls together and is warm and welcoming. There is some match making as the new midwife enters the small community, as well as some opposition for a young, unmarried midwife. The whole story is light-hearted and positively delightful.
The Captive Brides Collection is a wonderful selection of nine tales dealing with captivity. Captivity may be physical, mental or spiritual. It is anything that binds us against our will. The reader travels from America to Australia, from 1655 to the late nineteenth century. The stories have similar themes of injustice, prejudice, trust, redemption, new beginnings and second chances, and fighting for freedom.
Down the ages women (and men and children) have been exploited by the greedy and the grasping. However there are good men who will fight this injustice. Good old fashioned knights in shining armour.
A perfectly delightful collection. I have my favourite. Pick up a copy today and see which one you like best.
Seven Brides For Seven Mail Order Husbands is a wonderful set of seven delightful Historical tales by seven different authors. All the stories are set in Turtle Springs, in the aftermath of the American Civil War, and have the same core. It was wonderful to read seven unique tales about the same event.
The stories all had similar themes of recovering from war, trusting God, facing fears, new beginnings and more. The characters were all warm and welcoming.
Did I have a favourite story? No. Each one was a wonderful offering and I could not possibly choose.
The Blue Ribbon Brides Collection by various is a perfect collection of Christian historical romantic tales. There are nine unique stories in this single volume. Each one is totally absorbing, wonderfully told and each has the feel-good factor. It’s a fabulous read and I can highly recommend it.
Requilted With Love by Carrie Fancett Pagels is a wonderful feel-good story to kick off the collection. Carrie Fancett Pagels always writes stories that speak straight to the readers heart. Her talent for describing scenes means the reader walks through the story actively rather than passively reading it.
The story deals with loss and grief and second chances. God is at the very heart. Characters need to seek His guidance and listen to His voice.
