Double Take by Lynette Eason

Gripping, Glued & Guessing

Double Take by Lynette Eason is the first book in a fabulous new series called Lake City Heroes. It is a contemporary Christian novel that gripped me from the start.

Lynette Eason is the master of the suspense novel, reeling the reader in from the start. We learn that there is a killer targeting the lead character. It appears that someone is back from beyond the grave, but how can that be? Do eyes deceive what a head thinks it knows?

The reader is glued and guessing throughout. Even we do not know if the killer is who they appear to be. Or is the victim so traumatized that her mind is tricking her? Grab yourself a copy of the book and see if you can work it out.

We see characters suffering from PTSD as they carry baggage from the past. God longs for us to hand our burdens up to Him. He wants us to trust Him even when we cannot trust ourselves. Sufferers from PTSD need love and support in order to heal too.

We witness the importance of prayer. A character wisely says, “You can’t face what you have to face if you don’t get yourself prayed up.” We need to pray with expectation. “I’ve been praying and I expect God to answer.” God will always answer our prayers but not always in the way we want Him to.

God is always at work even when circumstances say otherwise. “I have to believe God is still working even if I can’t see it.” God promised to never leave us nor forsake us. He is always working on our behalf.

When we have no strength left to face tomorrow, we can cry out to God. “God… be my strength.” Then we will face life, pressing into Him.

We see the damage that holding onto grudges does to relationships. We need to forgive others and we need to accept the hand that offers us forgiveness. Without forgiveness, we are wasting our lives.

Friendships are important. They offer love and support.

All the characters were well drawn, believable and easy to empathise with. They elicited a variety of emotional responses from me.

Greed and grudges are ugly characteristics. People suffer at the hands of others. Greed will ultimately lead to downfalls.

Double Take was a fabulous start to a new series. I am looking forward to the subsequent books.

I received a free copy from the publishers. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.
