Exhumed: Gene’s Promise Of Revenge by Kimberly Morrison

The Rescue

Exhumed: Gene’s Promise Of Revenge by Kimberly Morrison is a powerful Christian novel about redemption. It is the fourth book in the Created With Purpose series but can be read as a stand-alone as the background info needed is included in the story. I would recommend reading the books in order though.

Our upbringings shape us into the adults we become. We need to learn from our past but not live there.

Bitterness can consume us and drag us down. Bitterness infects every area of our lives but there is an antidote – love. When we let love live in our lives there is no room for bitterness.

Lives can always be redeemed by God. No one is ever too far from His reach. God will never turn His back on us. He longs to rescue each and everyone of us from our situations.

War Clouds Over Blackberry Farm by Rosie Clarke

A Warm Welcome

War Clouds Over Blackberry Farm by Rosie Clarke is a charming historical novel opening in Britain in 1939 as war is approaching.

The action alternates between Norfolk and London. Both have a community spirit that is warm and welcoming. The countryside residents work together to ensure the farms still run. Land girls from London arrive too.

Dreams keep us pressing forward. As we follow a character, we witness her strength and tenacity to pursue her dream and to press forwards.

The characters are well drawn, likable and realistic. Their love and care reach beyond the pages to envelop the reader.

The Believer’s Journal For Everyday Faith by Kerry Evelyn

Beautiful And Essential

The Believer’s Journal For Everyday Faith by Kerry Evelyn is a simply beautiful journal designed to help you grow closer to God as you evaluate your faith over a twelve month period.

The book can be started at any time but I shall begin mine on January 1st 2022.

Kerry Evelyn shares her faith journey with her doubts, her struggles and her faithfulness as she has trusted God’s timing and leading over the years.

The book is broken into twelve monthly sections, and then subdivided into four weekly chunks, and then divided into seven daily sections each with eight questions for us to evaluate our successes, failures, prayers, challenges and more.

We are urged to pray and listen to God, writing down what He says to us. We need to spend time with God, getting to know Him. We want to give the first  few minutes of the day and the last minutes of the day to God.

Throughout the journal we are encouraged to reflect on the past and project into the future. We are urged to see “the world through a lens of God’s love.”

The Girl From Bletchley Park by Kathleen McGurl

Parallel Lives

The Girl From Bletchley Park by Kathleen McGurl is a marvellous timeslip novel that captivated me from the start.

The story is set in 1943 and present day as a granddaughter slowly uncovers her grandmother’s wartime experiences. A lifetime of keeping secrets means her granddaughter was surprised by her discovery.

Even without having to keep secrets, we see that many characters keep their own. What is hidden will have to surface sooner or later.

We witness betrayal in both time periods. Betrayal hurts especially when it appears as a bolt from the blue. The reader has their suspicions way before the characters do. As we read we can feel the tension rising within us.

Wartime is hard. Losses are felt not just by the characters but by the reader too – I did gasp out loud in one place. Kathleen McGurl is clearly a masterful story-teller as my emotions were completely invested in the book.
