Three Sisters by Heather Morris

The Promise

Three Sisters by Heather Morris is a powerful true story of survival during a time of great evil. It is a book that will horrify you as you witness the cruelty towards the Jewish people. It is a book that will inspire you as you observe the bonds of love between the three sisters. It is a book that needs to be read in memory of the six million innocents who perished.

Much of the book is set in Auschwitz and other camps, some is in the girls’ home in Slovakia and the book ends in Israel. The reader sees that “to survive one must remain invisible.”

Auschwitz was a place of unbelievable horrors. The three sisters each had the desire to survive in order to help each other and to fulfill a promise made to their father in 1929. “We Meller girls must stay strong and carry hope in our hearts.” They carried love too.

The camps tested a person’s faith. Some clung on to God. Others questioned. “We needed God in those camps, and where was He?” God walked beside them in the pits of hell but His presence could not always be felt. Our feelings are unreliable. God was there with His children.

People did what they had to in order to survive. “She has chosen to survive, so don’t ever judge her.” Heather Morris vividly describes the horrendous conditions, cruelty and torture of the innocents. Pictures have been planted in my brain through her words that are now impossible to ‘unsee.’

Holy Bible With Apocrypha

A Welcome Addition

Holy Bible With Apocrypha, Anglicized deluxe leatherette edition in ESV (English Standard Version) is an absolutely beautiful Bible that would be a welcome addition to anyone’s collection of Bibles.

I had not heard of the Apocrypha but it is explained in the introduction. It is a group of books that do not exist in their entirety in Hebrew or Aramaic. The reader is introduced to new names as well as the familiar of Esther (the extra content is in italics), the wisdom of Solomon, a letter from Jeremiah and Psalm 151 penned by David after he defeated Goliath. Martin Luther included some of the books in his Bible of 1534.

Scholars of both the Protestant and Catholic faith came together in 2016 to discuss the inclusion of the extra books.

The Apocrypha sits between the Old and New Testaments. It makes fascinating reading as the heart of God is revealed to the reader.

She Never Left by C.M. Harris

A Riveting Read

She Never Left by C.M. Harris is a riveting contemporary novel that I devoured in just one sitting. It had me completely hooked until the jaw-dropping conclusion that I did not spot coming!

The lines between reality and illusion are blurred. As the reader I could not always spot which was which but clung on with heart racing to the end.

There are alternating voices and time periods as the story unfolds.

Christmas Surprises At Mermaid’s Point by Sarah Bennett

Delightful

Christmas Surprises At Mermaid’s Point by Sarah Bennett is the most delightful contemporary festive offering. It is 2.5 in the Mermaid’s Point series. I recommend reading the previous two books first but it can be read as a stand-alone.

Sarah Bennett has produced the most charming novella introducing the reader to the festive plans of the residents at Mermaid’s Point.

With delicious descriptions this really feels like Christmas in a book. There is a warm welcome in the café, a family party, a walk on a windswept beach and much more. There really is something for everyone.
