The Vets At Hope Green part 1 by Sheila Norton

An Absolute Delight

The Vets At Hope Green part 1 by Sheila Norton was absolutely delightful. At only seven chapters, it drew me in and left me wanting more, more, more!

It was written in the first person in the voice of Sam, a young woman living in London but dreaming of an idyllic life in the country. Escaping from the city to a visit to her Grandmother in the country opens Sam’s eyes to the possibilities of a new life. I ‘saw’ life through Sam’s eyes and I too, wanted that life. Sheila Norton’s style of writing is warm and engaging. It feels more like a narrative from a friend than reading a novel.

At times I smiled. At times I cried. I ‘lived’ the action.

The Devoted by Suzanne Woods Fisher

Live Wholeheartedly

The Devoted by Suzanne Woods Fisher is an Amish romantic novel. It is the third book in the Bishop’s Family series but can be read as a stand-alone.

Oh wow, oh wow, oh wow! Once in a while a book comes along that really impacts me -and The Devoted is that book. It’s a great read on the surface but underneath beats the heart of God for His people. It is a modern telling of Moses leading the Israelites with all their fears and insecurities. The community is led by the Bishop with his huge heart for his people and for God. The Devoted is all about God’s plan for His children. “God has a plan for your future… watch and wait for His timing.” God’s desire is for us to live in relationship with Him and with each other. He wants us to trust Him and He gives us a hope for the future, no matter how old we are, God’s not finished with us yet. “I want to make their lives meaningful in old age.”

The Same – Yesterday, Today, Forever by Julia Wilson

Thoughts

God is the same – yesterday, today, forever. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob loves us with an everlasting love. He has said “Never will I leave you. Never will I forsake you. As I was with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, so I am with you. My heart’s desire is a relationship with you. I long to hold you in the palm of my hand. I am from everlasting to everlasting.”

The Mark Of The King by Jocelyn Green

Everything Begins And Ends With Grace

The Mark Of The King by Jocelyn Green is an epic Christian historical novel and I really enjoyed it. The action is set in the early eighteenth century and moves from France to the American colonies. Britain and France oppose each other, and then there are also the native Americans – some friendly, some hostile. It is a tale of love and loss, spies, sabotage and espionage. All these elements combine to produce a cracking story.

There is the theme of trust. Who can one turn to other than God? Double dealings, secrets and lies persist throughout the whole novel. One must choose who to trust.

God is the God who sees all. No-one is ever too far from Him or too insignificant to be noticed. “There is no person so small the Lord cannot see her, no voice so quiet that He cannot hear it. ”
