Drawn By The Current by Jocelyn Green

God, Our Safe Harbor

Drawn By The Current by Jocelyn Green is a simply marvellous Christian historical novel that is grounded in fact. It is the third book in The Windy City Saga series but can be read as a stand-alone.

The novel is set in Chicago in 1915 and has its’ focus on the real-life Eastland disaster. We witness characters suffering from PTSD, although that was unheard of at that time.

To survive the sinking was a matter of luck. “She would never understand why she had been spared.” Sometimes there are questions, to which we will never know the answer this side of heaven. After a trauma, it is necessary to talk it out. “Surviving wasn’t as simple as it sounds. Talking helped.”

We see the power of prayer. “Not that I can think of a single thing that might be of use to him, aside from prayer. That, he’ll need in spades.” Prayer is simply talking to God. We need to lift others up to God. We can trust that God always has our back. “Please, Father … send help.” There are times when we have no words but God knows what is on our hearts.

We see the patronizing attitude of some men. “You’re a nurturer. It’s what women are good at.” Women were seen as inferior to men by some. In contrast, others saw their equality.

A Refuge Assured by Jocelyn Green

At Home With The King

A Refuge Assured by Jocelyn Green is an epic Christian historical novel that blends fact and fiction into a thrilling story that grips from the start.

The action moves from revolutionary France to the shores of America. It is about a search for safety and to belong. Forever running and looking over one’s shoulder is no way to live. America is fraught with difficulties as the search for Louis Charles continues there. No matter what we are running from or where we are running to, there is no safer place to be than in the arms of Jesus. He can be trusted and always hears us when we pray. “Trust that He hears you when you pray.”

The Mark Of The King by Jocelyn Green

Everything Begins And Ends With Grace

The Mark Of The King by Jocelyn Green is an epic Christian historical novel and I really enjoyed it. The action is set in the early eighteenth century and moves from France to the American colonies. Britain and France oppose each other, and then there are also the native Americans – some friendly, some hostile. It is a tale of love and loss, spies, sabotage and espionage. All these elements combine to produce a cracking story.

There is the theme of trust. Who can one turn to other than God? Double dealings, secrets and lies persist throughout the whole novel. One must choose who to trust.

God is the God who sees all. No-one is ever too far from Him or too insignificant to be noticed. “There is no person so small the Lord cannot see her, no voice so quiet that He cannot hear it. ”
