Never Too Late
Nothing More by Autumn Macarthur is a wonderful Christian novel that will warm your heart. It is part of the Love In Store series and is also found in the Three Weddings collection.
It is refreshing to have the two lead characters about seventy years old. They are proof that while there is breath in our body, God still has plans for our lives. We need to trust Him. It is never too late to “hand[ing] the future over to God.”
One of the characters is having cancer treatment. Her diagnosis altered her outlook on life as she re-arranged her priorities. What had previously seemed important – wealth and status- pales beside the love of your family. A personal epiphany u-turns her life as she is redeemed by God (before the book started).
We are never too old to have a fresh start with God. “Maybe it was time to ask God into his life.” There is much rejoicing in heaven whenever a prodigal returns home. “He may have given up on God, but God hadn’t given up on him.” God will never forget about us. Our names are engraved on His heart.
There is the theme of forgiveness. Sometimes we need others to forgive us and sometimes we need to forgive ourselves.
Jesus Loves Me
Teapots And Tiaras by Autumn Macarthur is a delightful contemporary Christian novel and part of the Love In Store series. It is also in a collection entitled Three Weddings. I thoroughly enjoyed catching up with familiar characters.
There are the twin themes of love and duty. Sometimes in life we witness love stifled by duty. We see the detrimental effects on a character after his grandfather preached duty above all else.
We all need love. When we are loved, we feel safe. Love is priceless.
It is a terrible thing to misrepresent God. “He’d never measured up to the perfection his grandfather’s God demanded.” God is not a frowning, angry God waiting for us to mess up. God is a God of love who when He sees us mess up, He walks beside us and helps us clear up our messes. We never have to earn His love. God’s gift to us is His love. He loves us completely and always will.
A Gift From God
The Wedding List by Autumn Macarthur is a delightful contemporary Christian tale and part of the Love In Store series but can be read as a stand-alone. It is also in a three-book set entitled Three Weddings.
We witness the power of past hurts to continue to impact present lives. Cruel words spoken cannot be ‘unheard’ or forgotten. We need to learn to give our hurts up to God and move forwards into the future.
There is the theme of trust. We need to be able to trust others and ourselves. We recognize that “sometimes trusting God was the hardest thing to do.” This is where faith and trust sit side by side. If we have faith, we know we can trust God no matter what our circumstances tell us. Just because we cannot see God working does not mean He isn’t. “God wanted her to trust Him.”
We witness pure love within the novel. It is a love that says I love you for who you are and not for what you can do for me.
