Moving Target by Lynette Eason is a thrilling contemporary Christian crime suspense that I just could not put down. It is the third book in the Elite Guardians series but can be read as a stand-alone.

The atmosphere is one of terror, suspicion and suspense. A serial killer is playing a dangerous game and is the master of disguise and illusion. The game is deadly. I read with heart in my mouth.

The past is haunting a character who cannot let go of guilt. “When was the last time he’d felt peace?” The character has withdrawn from God. It is only God who can give us a peace that lasts in spite of circumstances.

Anger at God’s seeming inability to step in and prevent hurt, has kept a character from God. “He… thought about approaching the God he’d given up on long ago.” Ultimately a character knows that God will never give up on us and is just waiting for us to return home to Him.

Without Warning by Lynette Eason is an exciting contemporary suspense. It is the second book in the Elite Guardians series but can be read as a stand-alone. I enjoyed meeting up with familiar faces.

The Elite Guardians are a unit of female bodyguards who form a tight bond and have each other’s backs. Without Warning focuses on Katie.

When life is good – pray. When life is tough – pray. God always hears our prayers. “Would God listen to him?” Yes, absolutely. God celebrates when a prodigal returns to the fold. God always answers our prayers but not necessarily in ways we could have imagined.

Life has dealt blows. Sometimes we blame God. “Forgive God. It’s not His fault.” Hardships in life are not caused by God but He can turn situations around. As in Genesis 50, what others meant for harm, God used for good.

The Fall-Out

Backlash by Rachel Dylan is a marvellous contemporary Christian crime suspense. It is the second book in the Capital Intrigue series but can be read as a stand-alone. I enjoyed catching up with familiar faces.

In book one we met a group of friends. Book two sees us follow the fortunes of Layla. Friendship is important. We all need good friends whom we can trust and who will support us through life.

At times life spirals out of control. We can always turn to God for support. “Relying on my faith gets me through the difficult times.” Being a Christian does not make us immune to hard times but God is faithful and has promised to never leave us.

“He was still struggling to answer… why had God left him?” God walks alongside us. If we fail to ‘see’ or ‘feel’ Him, the fault lies with us and where we have placed our focus.

The novel is full of suspense and very intriguing. A successful mission has been turned around as the team face lies, danger and cover-ups. Somewhere within the law enforcement is a leak, it needs to be plugged before more damage is done.

A Social Commentary Of The Year

Tales From Lindford by Catherine Fox is a contemporary novel looking back at 2020 from a birds eye view of the residents of Lindford. We drop in and out of their lives. It is the fourth book in the Lindchester series but can be read as a stand-alone.

It is a fascinating and comprehensive account of the feelings, highlights and lows of the year that COVID19 hit. It was certainly a year like no other. 2020 approached with such optimism, who could have foreseen a global pandemic?

Catherine Fox has cleverly constructed her tale. She hovered over the fictional houses and gardens of Lindford to reveal snippets of lives and thoughts of the time. I thought it was all very brilliantly done. With each step I was reminded of my thoughts on the year and its developments.

There were varying reactions to the year as everyone tried to cope the best that they could in the unprecedented times. Optimism gave way to stoicism as the year progressed. We became resigned to our loss of freedom. “It is what it is” was on many lips, mine included.
