The Heart Of The Midwife is a delightful collection of four Christian novellas that will warm your heart. They are all set at the end of the nineteenth century.

The themes are all similar as young women attempt to bring babies into the world. They meet various opposition from pompous men to aging women practicing voodoo. The love for the poor shines through as the young women become the eyes and ears, the hands and feet of Jesus. Faith is strong as God is able to guide us and protect us from our fears.

This is a positively charming quartet of tales.

Love’s Charm by Cynthia Hickey is an absolutely charming tale. I found the setting very reminiscent of Walnut Grove in Little House On The Prairie. The community pulls together and is warm and welcoming. There is some match making as the new midwife enters the small community, as well as some opposition for a young, unmarried midwife. The whole story is light-hearted and positively delightful.

The Gift

Abigail’s Secret by Marilyn Turk is a charming contemporary Christian mystery suspense that I loved.

The novel concerns the restoration of a light house and the nearby keepers house. The old connects with the new as some surprising artefacts are discovered. This reminds the reader that God can restore our lives. He renovates us from the inside out, blending the best of the old with the new.

God is the light-bearer. Like the light house He warns us of danger if we just keep focused on Him.

The generations are linked down the years by a diary with entries from 1945. A grandmother and her granddaughter share not just a name but life experiences too.

Shadowed By A Spy by Marilyn Turk is a marvelous Christian historical war novel that will have you enthralled from the start.

Set in 1942 Marilyn Turk has clearly done extensive research as she blends fact and fiction to produce a fabulous tale. The reader is treated to an epic novel that focuses on patriotism. Patriotism for the American meant something very different to patriotism for the Nazi. Nazis followed Hitler through brain washing or fear or both. Americans were patriotic because they believed in stopping evil and protecting their land and people. The reader hears about war bonds, digging for victory and concerts to raise morale and funds for the servicemen.

The Great Lakes Lighthouse Brides Collection is a wonderful Christian historical collection of seven stories set in the nineteenth and early twentieth century. The stories are united in their settings and themes – search and rescue. This reminds the reader that God is in the search and rescue business. He searches for us until He finds and rescues us from a life of disconnection from Him. He rejoices when we are found. I loved the references to books that were around at the time too. A perfectly delightful set of stories.

Anna’s Tower by Pegg Thomas is a delightful tale that has its base in historical facts. The story is about encouragement, kindness and facing our fears. Hearts and homes are opened up to strangers. Men are rescued, reminding the reader that God wants to rescue each and every one of us. A tale to warm your heart.
