Romance Grows In Arcadia Valley by various is a wonderful set of six books, all set in the fictional Arcadia Valley. They all have similar themes including subsistence farming and preserving the earth’s resources for subsequent generations by shopping locally and buying or producing things locally. The stories all have a wonderful, warm community feel to them with likable and realistic characters who are easy to empathise with.

I loved how the stories reference characters and places in the other novels which adds to the feeling of familiarity. All the authors write delightful stories that will warm your heart.

Best Friends

JointJoint Venture by Elizabeth Maddrey is a wonderful contemporary Christian romance novella. It is the prequel to the Grant Us Grace series and I absolutely loved it. I love everything that Elizabeth Maddrey writes.

Joint Venture is a novella about best friends and new beginnings. Hairdressers Matt and Laura are friends who support each other. Their relationship is wonderful to read. They are both friendly and caring. Elizabeth Maddrey writes in such a way that I can ‘feel’ their friendship and it is a complete joy to ‘watch’ their interactions.

The new beginnings is in both Laura’s personal and professional life. New beginnings can be scary and new beginnings can be fun. As the reader I could both ‘see’ and ‘feel’ the excitement and intrepidation as Laura planned a new venture.

OpOperation Fireworks by Elizabeth Maddrey is a wonderful Christian novella and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s the third story in the Operation Romance series but can be read as a stand-alone.

God is at the heart of the novella. Characters pray to God and turn to Him when the going gets tough. Faith and trust in God is pivotal. When life presents hard decisions, one needs to trust God to make a way when there seems no way.

Linked in to faith and trust is the theme of how big is your God? “Don’t try to make God smaller than He is.” Sometimes we limit God’s size and our expectations. God is bigger than we think, so dream big and see God in action.

Elizabeth Maddrey is a fabulous author and I love all her books. I found A Handful Of Hope to be not only a great read but a very brave and honest one. In it Elizabeth Maddrey tackles the topic of depression.

Depression is often seen as a taboo subject. People who have not suffered may make light of the subject using phrases like ‘snap out of it’. Depression is an illness. It is nothing to be ashamed of or hidden, and like all illnesses it needs treatment. We take pills for headaches therefore it is sensible to take pills for depression.
