The Gift by Louise Jensen

Do I Even Trust Me?

The Gift by Louise Jensen is a fabulous contemporary psychological thriller that had me gripped from the start. The first chapter actually begins near the end of the action so I was asking questions and embroiled in the book from the start.

Grief can grab a hold of us. “Grief has sucked the life from her.” Grief consumes and will suspend us in time. When people face the death of loved ones, they often “prayed to a God they didn’t believe in.” People are desperate and cling to any hope that they can.

When money motivates, life often takes a downward turn. We need correct priorities. “There are worse things to lose than money.”

The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins

Intriguing

The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins is a contemporary psychological thriller that will have you guessing throughout as the start is the ending.

The book is split into three different female voices united by circumstances. The action moves between them in alternating time periods.

The main female characters are a blend of strong characters with unique flaws. I would have liked more background for all of them. I treated all the male characters with a healthy dose of suspicion.

I had heard a lot about this book and was intrigued to read it. Whilst I found the plot well constructed, I did get a little confused with the action at times.

A good tale to wile away an afternoon. You will never look at train journeys in quite the same way again.

The Living Cross by Amy Boucher Pye

Perfect For Lent

The Living Cross by Amy Boucher Pye has been a marvellous read for Lent. A chapter a day which starts with a Biblical passage and ends with a prayer. Amy Boucher Pye’s thoughts are sandwiched in between.

Amy Boucher Pye writes from experience. Her observations are insightful. She has a huge heart for God and for people.

At the end of each week are exercises designed for self reflection and to draw the reader closer to the heart of God.

The Living Cross has been just perfect to read and reflect on. I am now filing it away on my bookshelf ready to read again next year.

Blind Faith by Kevin and Kristen Collier

Light Hearted And Fun

Blind Faith: Love Is Patient by Kevin and Kristen Collier is a light-hearted YA read with themes of faith and trust.

The characters are wholesome with good family relationships. It is not a heavy read, an atmosphere of fun pervades the story. I loved the inclusion of animals – and found the introduction to the cat highly amusing.

A fun read.

I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
