The Christmas Blessing by Melody Carlson

The Thankful List

The Christmas Blessing by Melody Carlson is the most delightful Christian historical Christmas read which will swell your heart and leave you smiling. Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without the latest festive offering from Melody Carlson and The Christmas Blessing is just perfect.

Set in 1944 there are the themes of loss and grief. War always brings suffering as mothers lose sons on both sides. The pain and grief is raw. It is ‘intense pain and regrets.” Every day is a day of pretending and a “manufactured smile.” Life seems to have ended but we are still breathing. Every day we live with our pain, grief and anger – anger towards God “She had been angry at God for months.” His plans seem to make no sense to us this side of eternity.

Justice Buried by Patricia Bradley

Can You Predict The Outcome?

Justice Buried by Patricia Bradley is a very clever and intelligent Christian contemporary murder suspense that will have you on the edge of your seat throughout. It is the second book in the Memphis cold Case series but can be read as a stand-alone.

Threats await round every corner making pulses rise and hearts race. My senses were heightened as I read on towards the excellent conclusion.

Present day murders seemingly connect to crimes long gone… but what is the link? And why? The murder squad cooperates with the cold case department trying to solve the crimes. Everyone, though appearing to be of good character must be a suspect. With an intricate plotline, the reader tries (and in my case, fails) to predict the outcome.

Sacrificial Lam by Gary Guinn

Whom To Trust?

Sacrificial Lam by Gary Guinn is an edge of your seat contemporary thriller. It will have you hooked and guessing from the start as you become absorbed in the action.

The reader ‘feels’ the threat and danger that lurks around every corner. “A part of him was afraid of everyone.” We suspect most characters until the culprit is revealed.

There are themes of loyalty and family. Family is everything. A mother’s love and instinct to protect means she will do anything for her young… even if it means sacrificing her principles.

Family loyalty may become warped over the years. Impotence to act in the past may influence behaviour in the present.

These Healing Hills by Ann H Gabhart

A Horse, A Dog And A Saddlebag

These Healing Hills by Ann H Gabhart is the most delightful Christian historical romance. It is set in 1945 as the war in Europe ends. Fact blends with fiction as the reader learns about the Frontier Nursing Service.

War changes people. Not everyone in war brings harm. “He ain’t over there shooting people, but … he’s doing some healing too.” Medics still saw horrendous sights and needed a special healing of their own.

Home calls some. For others they run from their original home to find somewhere else where they belong. Home is where we feel at peace.

The mountains are a unique landscape, housing a unique people. Distrustful of strangers until they realise they mean no harm. They are the salt of the earth. They have a fine community spirit that pulls together, especially in the harsh winter months.
