Love’s Chance by Emily Murdoch

Blossoming

Love’s Chance by Emily Murdoch is a Christian historical romance. It has the themes of new beginnings, prodigals returning, families and forgiveness.

We may wander from God but “there is no measurement of lostness.” God longs to welcome each and every one of us home again, no matter how far off we have wandered.

God watches over us. He walks alongside us through whatever we face. “Though she placed her faith in the Lord, why would He save her from her own mistakes?” We grow in times of trouble and hopefully learn from our mistakes and draw closer to God.

Cookies And Candlelight by Elizabeth Maddrey

Shining A Light

Cookies And Candlelight by Elizabeth Maddrey is a deliciously delightful contemporary Christian romance and part of the Arcadia Valley series. It can be read as a stand-alone.

This Arcadia Valley collection has produced some wonderful stories that are linked by characters, food and the theme of sustainability. This novel concentrates on good food, locally produced and sourced, with one eye very much on the carbon footprint. We have a duty of care to look after God’s earth. With much of Cookies And Candlelight set in a bakery, the reader has their taste buds tempted by all the baked goodies.

Elizabeth Maddrey has produced warm and wonderful characters that just lodge themselves in the reader’s heart. There is a fabulous family atmosphere and the reader ‘feels’ included in the action.

The Path Of The Child by Sojourner McConnell

Of Isolation And Hope

The Path Of The Child by Sojourner McConnell is a powerful contemporary novel which I really enjoyed. It was a compulsive read which drew me in from the start as I put on my ‘Mom and nurturing’ hat.

The novel is two-fold, dealing with a child and her mother. Told in the third person from various viewpoints, the reader gets to intimately know the characters.

There is the voice of mental illness. I found this a powerful chapter as the voices played their part. They seemed to empower the person as their will took over.

Chief Of Sinners by Caryl McAdoo

Forgive Us Our Sins

Chief Of Sinners by Caryl McAdoo is the tenth book in the Texas Romance series but can be read as a stand-alone. This marvellous series continues to follow the fortunes of the Nightingales through 1939, into the war years and beyond.

Once again Caryl McAdoo has written  a fabulous tale full of godly themes and also with a word of warning – be careful, we can all fall into temptation. We need to keep our focus on God, remove ourselves from temptation and have godly friends to whom we are accountable. The sins of the fathers may revisit their sons but it doesn’t have to be that way.

Our sins will find us out sooner or later. The truth must come out. Sins destroy not only us, but the innocent around us.
