Amish Wanderer by Laura V Hilton

Time To Heal

Amish Wanderer by Laura V Hilton is a contemporary Amish romance and I really enjoyed it.

The novel has God at the centre. God loves each and every one of us with an everlasting love but there are times when we cannot see Him. “Silence. Gott where are you? Nothing.” God’s silence never equates with His absence. God longs to have a relationship with us all. Sometimes we wrongly disqualify ourselves. “Gott didn’t listen to her. Didn’t hear her. Didn’t care.” We think we have to be ‘good enough’ and we forget about grace but “Gott has never left you.” God does care and God does see and God does hear.

The story shows how relationships are built between us and God and each other. Relationships may be complicated but God just wants us to have faith and trust Him.

Within the tale characters are running from their past and living their lives in fear of the past catching up with them. Fear is the opposite of faith. They need to hand their fears over to God and step out in faith.

The Amish community is close knit. They support each other. There is a feeling of warmth especially when the reader enters the kitchen and hears about the cookies to be baked.

Life is a journey. Sometimes literally and always spiritually. The novel shows the need for roots. As we journey through life, we need to be rooted in God and we need to find a community to put down our roots.

The novel deals with the difficult topics of mental illness and domestic abuse as well as rape. Laura Hilton portrays the topics sensitively. Love and care are needed by all to enable healing.

I really enjoyed Amish Wanderer. It was my first novel by Laura Hilton but I shall be hunting out more.

I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
