Risking Love by Brenda Anderson

Flying Lessons

loveRisking Love by Brenda Anderson is a beautiful contemporary Christian romance. It is the first book in the Where The Heart Is series and I loved it.

I always love Brenda Anderson’s novels. They are beautifully written with God at the centre. Risking Love is an intricate love story with very realistic and likable characters. The battles and struggles they face are easy to empathise with. They tug at the readers heart. Lissa is a wonderful leading lady – full of character traits that just spoke to my soul. I could see myself in her as I too am risk adverse. Caleb was the perfect leading man – rugged, good looking, adventurous and kind. The supporting characters of Haven, Abigail and two year old Aimee were all perfect in their roles. Brenda Anderson had delightfully captured a two year old in Aimee with her speech and mannerisms.

Color Of Danger by Alexa Verde

One Of A Kind

ColorColor Of Danger by Alexa Verde is a Christian multicultural romantic suspense. It will have you guessing and asking questions right from the start – and just when you think you’ve guessed the outcome, you find out you’re wrong!

The novel has many themes including that of forgiveness. We all need forgiveness but it is often hardest to forgive the face in the mirror. Past performance means Mari believes she is beyond forgiveness and redemption. “Once she believed she was worthy of God’s love… How could she be worthy of it now?” No-one is ever beyond God’s grace. “God’s mercy is limitless.”

The All-Girl Filling Station’s Last Reunion by Fannie Flagg

Nature Versus Nurture

fannie-flaggThe All-Girl Filling Station’s Last Reunion by Fannie Flagg is both a contemporary and historical read. It is set in the World War II years and also modern day. It is a marvellous read and a tribute to the WASPS – all those brave American women pilots who flew in World War II.

The novel is a journey of discovery. Sookie wants to find out who she is. “Everyone seemed to love Sookie but Sookie.” Sookie feels she has under achieved her whole life. Her discovery enables her to say “Being a successful person is not necessarily defined by what you have achieved, but by what you have overcome.” Sookie, far from being the weak woman she thinks she is, is actually incredibly strong.

Widow by Denise Weimer

Broken Pottery

WidowWidow by Denise Weimer is the second book in the Restoration series but can be read as a stand-alone as any information needed from the first novel is incorporated into the second one. It is both a contemporary and a historical Christian novel. Much of the action is present day but some is mid nineteenth century.

Widow is an amazing read. The detail about garments and furnishings is comprehensive and a delight for the reader. Denise Weimer has clearly researched thoroughly.

It was an absolute pleasure to catch up with all the characters from book one, including Yoda the kitten. As Denise Weimer writes with care about even the smallest kitten, the reader is reminded that God cares about every detail of our lives. Nothing is too big or too small for Him.
