The Evacuee War by Katie King is a delightful historical novel that will warm your heart. It is the third book in the Evacuee series but can be read as a stand-alone. I enjoyed catching up with familiar faces.

The year is 1940 and the place is a village near Harrogate. The reader is in for a real treat as we follow the eleven year old twins Jessie and Connie, and their family and friends.

Being evacuated from London to stay with a vicar and his wife, the children enjoy fresh air, village life and animals. The reader is charmed by the presence of a pet pig and pony.

Peer rivalry at a new school creates problems but there is a creative solution.

The children have big hearts as they think of others who are less fortunate.
