Safe Harbour In Pelican Crossing by Maggie Christensen

A Perfect Escape

Safe Harbour In Pelican Crossing by Maggie Christensen is a most charming contemporary novel that I really enjoyed. It is the fifth book in the Pelican Crossing series but can be read as a stand-alone.

Each book in the series has a different character focus but they all have inter-connecting lives. It is always good to catch up with familiar faces. The reader appreciates the wisdom of Old Agnes, and applauds when characters take note of her words.

Pelican Crossing is the place where many (including this reader) want to call home. “Here in Pelican Crossing, it was as if she had a new lease of life.” Pelican Crossing is a place of community, where hurting hearts come home to heal.

Pelican Crossing is also a place of new connection and re-connection. A place where secrets are not so secret and where big hearts spread love and care.

We witness that the lives of the two main characters have not always been easy. They ‘lost’ each other in their teens and have now ‘found’ each other – but is the ending destined to be happy?

A Christmas Surprise In Pelican Crossing by Maggie Christensen

Absolutely Charming

A Christmas Surprise In Pelican Crossing by Maggie Christensen is an absolutely charming contemporary novel which I read in just two sittings, pausing only to sleep. It is the fourth book in the Pelican Crossing series but can be read as a stand-alone.

I enjoyed catching up with familiar faces and meeting new ones. Maggie Christensen always introduces her readers to wholesome, likable, fully rounded characters who are easy to picture and to empathise with. They are an eclectic mix such as you would find in any seaside town. Their ages range from a baby to old Agnes, with the leading characters being fifty-eight and sixty-two.

Dogs also have a starring role. Dogs turn a house into a home. They help people who are feeling down. They are very much characters in their own right.

Life is for living to the full. You are never too old to start fresh opportunities. Life is for grabbing and experiencing, not for merely existing.

A New Dawn In Pelican Crossing by Maggie Christensen

A Hug In A Book

A New Dawn In Pelican Crossing by Maggie Christensen is a most charming contemporary novel that I thoroughly enjoyed. It is the third book in the Pelican Crossing series but can be read as a stand-alone. I recommend reading the previous books first for character development and progression.

Fans of Maggie Christensen will recognize the fictional town of Bellbird Bay and its’ residents who are just up the coast from Pelican Crossing. The interactions and crossovers between the two series, help the reader to feel at home.

Maggie Christensen writes in a very warm fashion as she draws the reader into her world. With each new tale we feel as if we are returning home to receive a hug in a book.

All the characters are well drawn and believable. The majority, including the lead characters, are over fifty. This makes them very relatable and easy to empathise with. Each new book has its’ focus on a different main character who will then interact with familiar faces.

The focus of this book is a pair of fifty something singles. One is single through the death of a partner. The other is single due to an unfaithful partner and is awaiting divorce to be finalized but there are financial stumbling blocks. Both are similar but different. Both have locked hearts away in order to preserve them.

Secrets In Pelican Crossing by Maggie Christensen

Living Life

Secrets In Pelican Crossing by Maggie Christensen is the most charming contemporary novel that warmed my heart. It is the second book in the Pelican Crossing series but can be read as a stand-alone. For maximum enjoyment, I recommend reading book one first for your introduction to the Pelican Crossing community.

Pelican Crossing is just up the coast from Bellbird Bay. Readers of that delightful series will be familiar with characters and locations that also pop up in this book.

This is a book about families. Families come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. We meet a newly widowed lady and her five year old son, both of whom have been left with PTSD. Help comes in many different forms including the grandfather and a puppy called Bluey. Bluey bonds with his little owner. It is beautiful to witness, as is the growing bond between grandfather and grandson.

There is also a divorcee with two grown up daughters. They have a loving bond. We witness that the age of fifty is pivotal. It can be a time for new beginnings.

As well as new beginnings, we see a past that must be faced. What began as shame many years ago, is now a blessing.
