Something In The Air In Pelican Crossing by Maggie Christensen

Awakenings

Something In The Air In Pelican Crossing by Maggie Christensen is a delightful contemporary novel that will warm your heart. It is the eighth book in the Pelican Crossing series but can be read as a stand-alone.

I enjoyed meeting up with familiar faces. Pelican Crossing is just up the coast from Bellbird Bay (another fabulous series by the author). It gives the reader a familiar feeling as businesses and characters from Bellbird Bay are mentioned in passing.

All the characters are delightfully drawn, and are warm and welcoming. The majority of characters are over fifty. It is refreshing to see that growing older does not necessarily mean an ever-increasing sedentary life. Life is for living whatever your age.

The two lead characters are similar but different. Both have been affected by previous life events, and now prefer to life an isolated life. “Why did the name of that boy still have the power to make her feel like this?… He can’t hurt me anymore.” As neighbours, they find their paths often cross. Previously closed lives begin to bud and blossom.

A chance meeting with an upset young woman causes a fifty plus woman to offer love and care. A trauma in both their lives bonds the women. They can help each other to heal.

A Family Christmas In Pelican Crossing by Maggie Christensen

Closing The Gap

A Family Christmas In Pelican Crossing by Maggie Christensen is a most charming Contemporary Christmas novel that will warm your heart and leave you smiling. It is part of the Pelican Crossing series but can be read as a stand-alone.

Once more Maggie Christensen has created a wonderful treasure chest full of characters as we catch up with familiar faces and get to know new ones. Pelican Crossing is a place of community where strangers become friends; and friends become family.

The leading characters are in their sixties and prove that life is for living whatever your age. At each new stage of life, there are new opportunities for fresh beginnings.

A character has spent a lifetime feeling hurt and angry. “It’s been a long time… I think I may be ready to… forgive her.” Forgiveness frees us from a prison of bitterness, enabling us to live light and free.

Another character finds himself single after losing the love of his life. There is life after loss. It will be different but one day you will smile again. “He missed her every day, but life had to go on.”

Waves Of Change In Pelican Crossing by Maggie Christensen

Totally Charming

Waves Of Change In Pelican Crossing by Maggie Christensen is a very charming contemporary novel that I adored. It is the sixth book in the Pelican Crossing series but can be read as a stand-alone. I recommend reading the books in order for character progression and the background stories to the characters.

Pelican Crossing is a place we would all love to reside, where the welcomes are warm and the coffee is flowing. It is a place where people go to heal. “Pelican Crossing was a good place to heal.”

Home is the place that calls us – whether we are in a good or a bad place, we all long to return home “Livvy began to feel better. Nothing had changed but she was home in Pelican Crossing.” Home is the place where people love us.

We see that the worst hurt comes from those we thought we could trust. ‘Friendly fire’ really pulls the rug out from under a character. The storyline reminded me of Joseph’s story in Genesis – what others meant for harm; God used for good. Sometimes our biggest disappointments can turn into our biggest triumphs.

Safe Harbour In Pelican Crossing by Maggie Christensen

A Perfect Escape

Safe Harbour In Pelican Crossing by Maggie Christensen is a most charming contemporary novel that I really enjoyed. It is the fifth book in the Pelican Crossing series but can be read as a stand-alone.

Each book in the series has a different character focus but they all have inter-connecting lives. It is always good to catch up with familiar faces. The reader appreciates the wisdom of Old Agnes, and applauds when characters take note of her words.

Pelican Crossing is the place where many (including this reader) want to call home. “Here in Pelican Crossing, it was as if she had a new lease of life.” Pelican Crossing is a place of community, where hurting hearts come home to heal.

Pelican Crossing is also a place of new connection and re-connection. A place where secrets are not so secret and where big hearts spread love and care.

We witness that the lives of the two main characters have not always been easy. They ‘lost’ each other in their teens and have now ‘found’ each other – but is the ending destined to be happy?
