Father’s Friend by Rhonda Hanson

Walking With God

Father’s Friend by Rhonda Hanson is a powerful contemporary Christian novel and the fourth book in the Father series. This is the back story of lead character Meredith and can be read as either the first or final book. I read it last, as recommended by the author.

We hear of the time starting from Meredith aged nineteen when she knew about God but didn’t actually know Him. We see the beginning of her friendship with God. We ‘hear’ their conversations. “When you just want to sit and visit with Me. That’s My favourite kind of prayer, because it means you just want to spend time with Me.” God delights when we just want to sit at His feet. As Meredith grows in her faith, she wants to spend time with God. “If He wants to talk to me, I want to listen.” Meredith realizes the importance of listening when God speaks.

When we have decisions to make, it is wise to consult God in prayer. “Can I pray about it?”

God gives us gifts. Our gifts bless us and we, in turn, bless others. “God had given music to her to be used for Him and to bless others.” God uses music to speak to hearts. “God was speaking to them through her music.”

Father’s Song by Rhonda Hanson

Power In Worship

Father’s Song by Rhonda Hanson is a powerful contemporary Christian novel and the third book in the Father series. It can be read as a stand-alone but I recommend reading the previous books first. This will give you maximum enjoyment and enable you to track the character progression.

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting up with familiar faces and witnessing faith and love in action. God the Father is at the heart of the novel as well as in the hearts of the characters. “A vessel of God, carrying all that had been placed within her.” God places His treasures within us, and He longs for us to share His gifts with others.

Within the novel we follow characters who have the gift of song. “She sang to Him from the alter of her heart.” Worship draws us closer to the heart of the Father. There is power in songs.

Prayer is important. “Prayer should always be our first go-to.” We should pray as easily as breathing. Prayer connects us to the heart of God.

Father’s Wings by Rhonda Hanson

Under His Covering

Father’s Wings by Rhonda Hanson is a powerful contemporary Christian novel that I just could not get enough of! It is the second book in the Father series but can be read as a stand-alone. I recommend reading book one first, for character development and maximum enjoyment.

This book explores the theme of life being a spiritual battle. Just as we can see evidence for the existence of God, we can also see evidence of the enemy. The enemy wants to distract and destroy us. God wants to give us life and peace. “Stay close to the One who knows the enemy’s agenda.” In order to defeat the enemy, we must draw close to the heart of God.

People cross our paths all the time. Some mean us harm. “God uses people to accomplish His purposes and so does Satan.” We need to be wise and discerning. Prayer is just a breath away. We need prayer to cover us at all times.

Sometimes there are no words. “I don’t know how to pray anymore.” God can ‘hear’ the longing of our hearts. He also sends people alongside us to pray and to lift us up when we have no strength left.

There is the theme of forgiveness. We must forgive others because we have been forgiven. “God is not punishing you. All your sins and mistakes are forgiven.” Sometimes life just happens. God never punishes us. He loves us.

Father’s Choice by Rhonda Hanson

Forgiven

Father’s Choice by Rhonda Hanson is a powerful contemporary Christian novel that I thoroughly enjoyed. It is the first book in the Father series which promises to be fabulous.

This is a faith-filled novel showing ‘real’ characters facing ‘real’ dilemmas and situations. We see that knowing God does not promise us a trouble-free life but we know that in all of our situations, God will walk beside us.

Being a Christian does not mean that we have got it all together. Rhonda Hanson has created realistic characters who are easy to empathise with. They mess up but do their best in any given situation. I loved the inclusion of a cat called Hook. He was totally believable and delightful in the interactions between him and the lead character.

Christians may even run from God but in our heart of hearts, we know that the only safe place to be is resting in the Father’s arms. “His arms longed to take her onto His lap and comfort her, but she resisted Him at every turn. He waited patiently, thinking of how He missed her.” When we stray, God longs for us to return to Him.
