Love On The Edge by Kerry Evelyn

Trust Him

Love On The Edge by Kerry Evelyn is a delightful contemporary Christian romantic suspense and the first book in the Crane’s Cove series.

There are two major themes in the novel. One is of hiding. We are reminded that whatever we face, God will protect and guide us in His love. We can face our tomorrows because God is already there. We can boldly say as in “Joshua 1:9… I am strong and brave because God is with me… Even in the worst of times.”

Within the novel two characters are suffering from PTSD – one is a veteran and the other a victim of a vicious attack. Together they help each other to overcome. They compare their traumas but “my experiences don’t diminish the terror of yours.” Trauma is trauma. Everyone responds differently but there can be no comparisons.

Our experiences build our character. “The good comes from bad and it shapes us.” We learn and grow through our journeys. As we learn to lean on God in the hard times, so we will grow – not only in strength but in our relationship with Him.

The Silent Friend by Diane Jeffrey

Powerful And Disturbing

The Silent Friend by Diane Jeffrey is a gripping contemporary psychological thriller that will have you glued from the start.

The story is split into the time periods of ‘before’ and ‘after’ as well as alternating between two voices. It is cleverly and uniquely constructed, enabling the reader to become emotionally invested in both the main characters before a jaw dropping reveal.

Both main characters have similar traits – they both have strained family relationships and are consumed by guilt, continually questioning what they should or could have done to alter the outcome. I had empathy for both as their struggles were ‘real.’

Within the novel the reader witnesses a character face and overcome their fears. This showed tremendous personal strength and determination.

Dangerous Deception by Evelyn Hill

Where The Truth Lies

Dangerous Deception by Evelyn Hill is a thrilling contemporary Christian romantic suspense that will have you questioning as you read.

The novel concerns truth, lies and trust. A character finds trust in short supply as she wonders just who is telling her the truth. Everything she has built her life on comes into question. Life is confusing but one thing she does know is that she can trust God to light the road ahead. This shows that it is important for us to have firm foundations in our lives.

Confusion is the order of the day as a character is told two completely different scenarios. The character leans on God, knowing that “The Lord knew her even if she did not know herself.”

The Girl Without A Name by Suzanne Goldring

Wow, Just Wow

The Girl Without A Name by Suzanne Goldring is a powerful dual time-line novel that had me completely enthralled from the start.

The action begins in 2004 looking backwards to 1939 before working its way forwards. The voices alternate within the time periods.

This was a novel that I ‘lived’ as I read. I put myself in the role of the leading lady. Due to the artistry of words of Suzanne Goldring I ‘felt’ what the character felt – the highs and the lows, the loves and the losses.

London was seen as a dangerous place to be for the children and many were evacuated at the start of World War II. The clean air of the Devon countryside contrasted with the grime of London. Some evacuees found loving homes. Others were cruelly treated and my heart broke.
