Traces by Denise Weimer

Hearts Racing

Traces by Denise Weimer is a contemporary Christian suspense that will have your heart racing as you read.

The main themes are about trust, hiding and running. In life we may choose to run from our past. “Wouldn’t it be nice to stop running from your past?” Our pasts make us who we are but we need to face them, learn the lessons and move on. “Sometimes God uses what look like setbacks as setups.”

We all have times when we want to hide away. The safest place to rest is in God’s arms. No matter what we face, it is best to face it with God.

Trust issues arise in the novel. We have to choose where to place our trust. God can always be trusted to have our backs.

Spring Splash by Denise Weimer

Uniquely Beautiful

Spring Splash by Denise Weimer is a wonderful contemporary Christian novel that surrounds two of my passions – swimming and special needs teens. It is a powerful read about pursuing your dreams, trying your best and celebrating successes.

I have worked with special needs children aged 11- 18 years in the local high school for thirteen years and it has been a joy and a pleasure. I totally connected with Spring Splash and ‘felt’ the love and had empathy with the young swimmers and their passion for sport. “No one is too broken in the water. No one is too heavy. No one is too clumsy. We’re all the same.” Swimming is a great leveller. It improves health, releases endorphins and enables all to glide through the water.

There were other sports in the novel. I loved the quote from a young runner. “When I run, I’m like everyone else.”

Always You by Jennifer Rodewald

His Plans

Always You by Jennifer Rodewald is  a delightful contemporary novel and part of the Potter’s House series.

Jennifer Rodewald has presented a wonderful, warm and welcoming collection of characters who envelope the reader with love. Her lead characters have a rapport with each other as they bounce their dialogue backwards and forwards. They make the reader smile.

God’s plans are always best for our lives. We do not always realise this. “He [God] means good for you, even when He tells you no.” Sometimes in our prayers we tell God what we want instead of listening to His plans for our lives. Prayer is important. It should be as natural as breathing. “Prayer came easily.” Prayer should be a two-way dialogue not a monologue from us.

Knowing God’s Word is also important. Whatever season we are in, there will always be an appropriate word from God. Sometimes in life there are just no words and then we need to lean on God and press into Him. “When there were no words, there was presence.”

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle

Beyond The Sea And The Sky

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle is the most beautiful contemporary novel celebrating friendship and love. It made me smile and it made me cry as the love radiated from its pages.

We do not always realise what we have until it is gone. Love creeps us on us over the years before overwhelming us. We know we are part of a great love because of the pain in parting.

Rebecca Serle celebrates a best buddy friendship in the novel – two girls meet aged seven, they grow up together and share the highs and lows, the ups and downs, the loves and losses in life. They appear to be complete opposites but their personalities complement each other as they support each other through life. Theirs is a beautiful friendship that will warm the reader’s heart.

We make our plans. We do everything on our lists but still life does not pan out the way we thought it would.
