The Ghost by Danielle Steel

Spanning The Centuries

The Ghost by Danielle Steel is both a contemporary and historical novel about overcoming – both pain, hurt and disappointments. I read it when it was first released in 1997 and twenty one years later, The Ghost has stood the test of time and is still a marvellous read.

Strong characters created by Danielle Steel face life after either betrayal or abuse. They have to learn to take a risk and live again. Life is full of disappointments but we face a choice as to how we deal with them. Will we merely react? Or will we choose how to move forward?

There are two stories running parallel but separated by two centuries. There are similar themes running through both. the earlier story examines the Indian conflict and the fact that women were seen as goods in the marriage market. “She was traded for land.” In both centuries, everyone is fighting their private battles. “They each had their private sorrows.”

The Bread Of Angels by Amber Albee Swenson

Mountains And Valleys

The Bread Of Angels by Amber Albee Swenson is a powerful contemporary story about the highs and lows of life, and the faithfulness of God.

Life can be going well when all of a sudden it is derailed – what do we do then? “We’re all struggling with something.” People do not always show their true selves, they plaster on a smile and carry on. God wants us to be ‘real.’ We all need friends who can support us through all the seasons of life. “We all bear a cross… it would be so much harder if we didn’t have others to help us bear them.”

The novel shows how everyone has the potential to fall from grace. “We all make mistakes but God meets us with His grace.” God’s grace covers us all. There is no sin so bad that God’s grace cannot cover it.

The Journey Home by Dr Gene Baillie

Nuggets Of Truth

The Journey Home by Dr Gene Baillie is a powerful personal testimony to the goodness and faithfulness of God. It is the thoughts of the author and his wife as she battles brain cancer. They share what they have learned along the way.

Life is a journey and “God has given you a roadmap… the Holy Bible.” It is God’s instruction manual for life. We would be wise to follow it.

Our attitude will depend on how well we enjoy the journey. There will be roadblocks but God is faithful and He can be trusted.

How big is your God? Do we limit God by our understanding of Him? Have we a big, bold faith? “Don’t be satisfied with a timid faith.”

We need to live out our faith. God asks us not for riches but for a servant heart. “We achieve greatness through service to others.”

A Year In The Lives Of God’s Furry Angels by Kirby Lee Davis

God Works Through All Things

A Year In The Lives Of God’s Furry Angels by Kirby Lee Davis is the perfect companion to God’s Furry Angels. The stories run parallel as the reader puts meat on the bones of the original story.

This book expands on the lives of the characters both human and four legged. We hear of all the exploits.

It is a book of love and trust. The love and trust of God for all. The love and trust of owners and their cats. This deep bond is clearly illustrated by the deep pain caused by loss. Death cannot break the bond.

There are some highly amusing moments as cats clearly rule the roost and are not afraid to show it.

God is faithful. He can be trusted, especially in the dark times. “She’ll not give up… she will pray instead.” Prayer is powerful. It is our lifeline to God.
