Out Of Control by June Foster

Who’s On The Throne Of Your Life?

Out Of Control by June Foster is a Christian contemporary novel that is not afraid to tackle real life issues.

People (wrongly) assume that Christians have it all together and life is perfect. Christians are people too, who try hard but sometimes fail. We have issues and flaws and are all a work in progress. “If he didn’t walk away, he could repeat his past mistakes.”

The novel shows our upbringing may influence how we act but we are not destined to repeat the sins of our fathers.

The theme of fathers runs throughout. “My earthly father made me feel worthless.” Looking for love and coming up short shatters self esteem which follows us into adulthood. We seek approval. Sometimes we fall into a pattern of addiction to make us feel good. “If she could buy some of those stylish Gucci sweaters… her anxiety would go away.” Stuff does not help. Only by seeking God can we feel loved, accepted and get peace.

God is not looking for perfect people. “We don’t have to wait until we are perfect to reach out to God.” God does not say “change and then I will love you.” God says “let Me love you and then change will follow.”

We have a sinful nature and we need to work to stay out of sin. “Would God look the other way?” We need people to come alongside us who will lovingly point out when we are about to fall into sin.

Forgiveness frees us. “Forgiving… instead of bearing a grudge felt good.” Forgiveness is as much for our sake as it is for others.

We need to pray at all times but “Why do we have to wait for a crisis to pray?”

Out Of Control  is a wonderful novel that does not shy away from tackling gritty themes. the story is grounded in God with realistic characters who are not perfect but working on their issues. It is a powerful read and I can highly recommend it.

I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

  1. Julia, you have so beautifully caught what I wanted to convey in this novel. I couldn’t have said it better. Thank you so much for the review on your blog and I pray many may find healing from their past through reading about these characters’ struggles. Blessings as you share your reviews with others.
