The Magic Faraway Tree: The Story Of The Film inspired by Enid Blyton

Enchanting

The Magic Faraway Tree: The Story Of The Film inspired by Enid Blyton is a perfectly delightful tale that will enchant anyone aged eight years and over. Whatever your age, if you grew up reading the original tales, this book will transport you back down the years.

The Magic Faraway Tree has been brought bang up to date to the twenty first century as the family escape London for a rural retreat.

At first the children dislike the lack of wi-fi and the quiet – but then they discover the faraway tree and the adventures begin.

The seasoned reader meets up with the familiar faces of Moonface, Silky, Dame Washalot etc, as we reminisce about the enchanted lands and the slippery slip.

All the characters are charming and treat the reader to a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

Third Year At Malory Towers by Enid Blyton

Friendships & High Jinx

Third Year At Malory Towers by Enid Blyton is a superb girls’ book set in a boarding school. It is the third book in the Malory Towers series but can be read as a stand-alone. I recommend reading the books in numerical order for character and timeline progression.

The girls are now fourteen as they head back to school in Cornwall. It is the spring term and there are two new girls – an American who is an aspiring actress, and a tomboy who loves her horse.

Once more we join in for lessons and pranks. There are friendships and squabbles; highs and lows; good behaviour and high jinx.

We see the kindness of a teacher when a beloved horse is in trouble.

We learn the lesson of being yourself and do not think of yourself as above others.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book as much today as when I first read the series fifty years ago.

Once more we join the children and Timmy the dog as they have another adventure on Kirrin Island, foiling the baddies plans.

Second Form At Malory Towers by Enid Blyton

Of Lessons & High Jinx

Second Form At Malory Towers by Enid Blyton is a delightful children’s novel and just perfect for the over tens. It is the second book in the Malory Towers series but can be read as a stand-alone. I recommend reading the books in numerical order.

I first read the series fifty years ago in my childhood and when there were only six books in the series. Reading it again now, the story has lost none of its’ charm. I still picture myself as Darryl Rivers as I read!

This book was first written in 1947 and it has lost none of its’ original charm. There are elements that ‘age’ the book – high tea, dorms, etc – but the story has a timeless appeal to new audiences today.
