Real Life Superheroes
Love At First Bark by Dana Mentink is a heart-warming
Christian short story that will leave you smiling.
There is the theme of being just who God
created you to be. Sometimes we struggle to mould ourselves into someone we
were never created to be. We must be prepared to lay down our plans and line
our wills up with God’s.
I loved the inclusion of a scruffy dog called
Charlie. His antics made me smile. He really was a real life super hero.
Romance, Adventure, Suspense
Lost Christmas Memories by Dana Mentink is a romantic Christian suspense that will have your heart racing as you hunt for clues to fill in the missing pieces.
The novel has the theme of searching. There is a search to regain a snapshot in time as well as searches to belong. Being hurt and excluded in our pasts are heavy burdens to carry. Living with our eye on the past prevents us from enjoying the present. We need to give our burdens and our pasts to the One who can make all things new.
This links to the theme of trust. After a crime is committed, suspicion needs to find an outlet. As the net widens and more ‘coincidences’ of bad luck happen, the question of trust looms large.
Duct Tape And Memories
Fetching Sweetness by Dana Mentink is a totally delightful Christian romance and I absolutely loved it. I love Dana Mentink’s writings that focus around adorable dogs and have God at the centre. Dana Mentink’s novels will make you laugh and they will make you think, and if you let them, her writings will help you abandon yourself to God’s plans.
A major theme in the novel is plans and dreams. Rhett has a dream. Stephanie has a dream. God has a plan, an individual plan for both their lives. Are they able to see His plans? And are they willing to be led by Him? Or are they both too focused on their own plans? God’s plan for our lives is always so much greater than our own. How often do we “make God fit into my plans instead of the other way round?”
Sit, Stay, Love by Dana Mentink is a totally charming and delightful contemporary Christian novel. The story concerns famous pitcher Cal Crawford, dog sitter Gina Palmer and small elderly dog Tippy. It was a wonderful novel and I could not put it down.
Dana Mentink masterfully drew her three main characters. All are unique and all are likeable. Tippy was delightful. For me, the whole novel seemed to revolve around her.
One of the themes was of unconditional love. Tippy possessed this quality. Although only a dog, she loved with loyalty and her whole heart. This reminded me of God who loves us unconditionally, no matter what. Whatever we do, whatever others think of us and whatever we think of ourselves, God loves us.
