Maggie’s Red Circus Bus by Sue Wickstead

Working Together

Maggie’s Red Circus Bus by Sue Wickstead is a most delightful book and just perfect for the under fives. The story has its’ roots in fact, as we learn from the back of the book.

The whole book is very colourful and appealing. The illustrations are full of detail and make perfect starting points for discussions with our children.

We see that the bus is at the heart of the community. It stands out as a bus but needs to be identified as a play bus. The children work together to decorate it.

Over a summer the children learn different circus skills, working towards a performance at the end of the summer.

The book teaches the importance of working together, learning new skills and how we are all part of our communities.

Maggie’s Red Circus Bus is a perfectly charming book that would enhance any child’s personal library. It is a perfect book to have in an early year’s classroom too.

I received a free copy from Rachel’s Random Resources for a blog tour. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.

Maggie’s Red Circus Bus

Everyone smiles and waves when the Playbus drives by—at least, almost everybody.

Imagine a whole bus full of costumes and toys and circus fun. After a summer of excitement, everyone is getting ready for a special performance full of talent and laughter.

But the bus driver has one final job: to make sure the Playbus is ready for the big day too.

This is a fun book full of circus thrills and cooperation. I enjoy the gentle plot, which leaves plenty of room for great ideas and imagination. I’d definitely recommend this book for summer reading!  (Sirah Jaroki – Editor)

  1. Thank you so much for jumping on board the bus today.
The children always loved the bus, they especially liked dressing up and using their imagination.
It was a cozy welcoming place full of everything they might need.
Indeed the carnival parade one year was the Circus and the children really enjoyed getting involved.
I was a clown and my children were a juggler and a little clown.
What would you want to be?

  2. Your review opened my eyes to the deeper meaning of this religious text. I appreciate how you highlight both the wisdom and practical applications for daily life.
