The Greatest Love Story Ever Told by Suzy K Quinn

To The Moon & Back

The Greatest Love Story Ever Told by Suzy K Quinn is the most beautiful contemporary story about love that I never wanted to end. I savored every moment of it.

This is not your traditional love story but make no mistake, it is a love story, and by far and away the best love story I have ever read.

We all need love but not everyone recognizes this fact and that can lead to loneliness. Sometimes we need other people to point out to us just what is missing.

This unconventional love story has nine year old Callum at it’s heart, along with his friend Angel Rain and Mr Lamb who is researching for his PhD thesis. They are unlikely heroes but heroes never the less.

Callum is largely ignored by his teacher at school. She has labelled him as a slow learner and has forgotten about him. In contrast, his teaching assistant is kind and encouraging. Callum is given the opportunity to help Mr Lamb with his thesis as Callum will be observed by him.

As the book progresses, we witness the growth of both Callum and Mr Lamb as a personality that was frozen, begins to thaw.

Callum has a heart full of love. “If you’re measuring love, Callum is one of the richest boys I know.” Being rich has nothing to do with bank balances and everything to do with hearts. Callum’s extended family show love and are loved. “If there are other people along the way who fall, we help them up.” Where needs are identified, they are met.

As well as being full of love, the novel is full of humor, especially where children mishear words. “‘Usually, our old pear looks after them’… ‘What’s an old pear?’… ‘A French girl who looked after children. A bit like a nanny.’” The interactions between Callum and Angel Rain are innocent and beautiful, but also wise beyond their years. Both are kind, caring and have an ethereal beauty.

The Greatest Love Story Ever Told is basically the world as seen through Callum’s eyes, and herein lies its beauty and simplicity. Callum is not a goody-goody. He is a boy who can be mischievous and who has love to give out, beyond measure. We all need a Callum in our lives. Our lives would then be much richer.

I cannot praise this book highly enough. I just love, love, love it! I want more, more, more of Callum please, Suzy Quinn.

If you only read one book this year, make sure it is The Greatest Love Story Ever Told.

I received a free copy via Rachel’s Random Resources for a blog tour. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.
