Dig It Digby by Jodie Parachini is an absolutely perfect book for the under fives.
The story is written in rhyme and has a rhythm that bounces along. The reader cannot help but smile as we figuratively, reach for our dancing shoes and join in!
All the pages are beautifully illustrated by John Joven. Digby and his digger friends all spring into life. They are very colourful which will make them appeal to young children. They all have friendly faces.
The story has a simplicity to it which enables young children to easily join in, once they have heard it a few times.
Each page is a starting point for further discussions with our children.
I think Dig It Digby would translate perfectly into a CGI movie for children. Imagine the merchandise too.
Dig It Digby is a beautiful addition to any child’s first library collection.
I received a free copy from Rachel’s Random Resources for a blog tour. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.
Dig It, Digby!
Although Digby enjoys building cities with his fellow trucks, he also loves to twirl and groove. Being true to both aspects of his personality will really shake things up at the construction site. The foreman may be gruff and scary, but dancing trucks can really get the job done!
DIG IT, DIGBY! targets all fans of truck/construction books, yet also pushes the boundaries of the typical ‘boy’ book genre. By incorporating dance, it challenges gender roles using nonhuman characters that all children can relate to. Told in joyous rhyme, DIG IT, DIGBY! is 360 words and has the lyricism of Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site and the stereotype-breaking ethos of Giraffes Can’t Dance.
