The Girl Behind The Red Rope by Ted Dekker and Rachelle Dekker

An Assault On The Senses

The Girl Behind The Red Rope by Ted Dekker and Rachelle Dekker is a marvellous Christian dystopian novel that will grip you from the start.

The novel has its basis in 1 Corinthians:13 – perfect love casts out all fear. We witness that life is a spiritual battle. It is so much more than we can hear, see and touch. We need the spiritual gift of discernment as we face tough choices in an attempt to uncover the truth.

Fear will always bind us. “Fear me alone, and I will always protect you from evil.” Living in fear is not what God would wish for us. Fear stops us from living out our faith. Whatever we feed will thrive. We need to feed our faith and starve our fears.

We need to be careful as to the voices we listen to. We need the life affirming voice of God. “Afraid that I’ll never be good enough to be clean.” God asks us to come to Him and He will change us. We do not have to clean our act up first. We need to be wary of those who seek to deceive us. In life we may well meet wolves in sheep clothing. We need to be so close to God that we will recognise them when they appear. When we draw near to God and know Him intimately, He will open our eyes and ears to the truth and the truth will set us free.

The Bad Mother’s Wedding by Suzy K Quinn

Fun And Relatable

The Bad Mother’s Wedding by Suzy K Quinn is a delightful contemporary novel. It is the fifth book in the Bad Mother’s series but can be read as a stand-alone. It is the first book in the series that I have read and now I REALLY want to read the books 1-4.

The style is in the form of a diary so we become intimately acquainted with the lead character. We know her thoughts and opinions on all things. It really does feel like we are sneaking a peak into her life.

2020 has been a year like no other. We all need a lift in our spirits and The Bad Mother’s Wedding is the book to do it. The action mirrors the actual events of the pandemic and is therefore easy to identify with. Imagine the difficulties trying to plan a wedding. It felt like road blocks were continually being thrown up. Plans had to be flexible and adaptable. Stress levels were high.

The Little Christmas Shop On Nutcracker Lane by Jaimie Admans

Believe In Me

The Little Christmas Shop On Nutcracker Lane by Jaimie Admans is really the most delightful contemporary novel that will warm your heart and put a smile on your lips. It is the essence of Christmas in a book.

Christmas is a time for believing in miracles but sometimes they need a little push to come true.

The novel shows that together we are stronger. When we all work towards a common goal it is closer than if we all work as individuals.

Beneath A Starless Sky by Tessa Harris

Dancing Through The Pain

Beneath A Starless Sky by Tessa Harris is a powerful historical novel set during the 1930’s and World War II years mainly in Munich.

The reader witnesses the terrible persecution of the Jewish people as the horrific gradually becomes the acceptable. There are some brave souls who although they spot what is coming, are powerless to halt it.

Not every German is a Nazi. “There are some good people left in Germany.” Some fight the system from within.

Actual factual events and figures blend with fiction to create this marvellous story. As a historian it was fascinating to read.
