Five Brides by Eva Marie Everson

Guiding Her Steps

Five Brides by Eva Marie Everson is the most delightful Christian historical romance that will warm your heart.

Set in the 1950’s surrounding five friends, the reader is treated to the customs of the day. Parents were respected and morals expected to be high. Unmarried mothers were frowned on but every child was seen as a gift from God no matter what the circumstances of their conception.

There were some gentlemen within the novel as well as some cads. Infatuation blinded women to the character flaws in men.

We need to be true to ourselves. “You deserve to be loved… Not for the person your boyfriend is trying to make you into, but for who you are.” If someone is pressurising you to change, they are not Mr Right. Finding true love is the order of the day. Love can often be found in the most unlikely of places and even when we are not looking.

How To Keep A Secret by Sarah Morgan

Girl Power

How To Keep A Secret by Sarah Morgan is a powerful contemporary family read. It is entertaining whilst imparting life lessons to us all.

The novel is about family and parenthood. Both are important. Both are complicated and messy. Both are needed to get through life. Not everyone is fortunate to have a good family. Family bonds are strong. Time has a way of cementing the bonds.

There are different dynamics portrayed within the family. I loved the bond of sisters.

Secrets are corrosive. Sooner or later they leak out. They are a burden that needs to be released. “Shedding secrets had lightened the load.” Secrets can become barriers between people. “Secrets are like walls. They stop you getting close.”

Love In Pictures by Alexis Goring

Misunderstandings And Prejudice

Love In Pictures by Alexis Goring is a delightful contemporary Christian romance. Alexis Goring always writes fiction that warms the heart whilst addressing relevant issues in today’s world.

There is the theme of prejudice. “Everyone deserves to be judged by the content of their character and not their skin colour.” Bad experiences in the past have broken through to affect attitudes. Stereotyping compounds the prejudiced outlook.

Character links to this. It is the state of a person’s heart that is important. The inside is far more crucial than the outside.

Misunderstandings arise due to jumping to conclusions. It is always important to talk.

A Christmas To Remember by Rebecca Moesta

Dear Santa…

A Christmas To Remember by Rebecca Moesta is a perfectly delightful contemporary Christmas romance. A real treat to be read at any time of year. It is based on a Hallmark movie.

Christmas is a time for memories – old and new- but what happens if you have no memory? The novel shows a search to belong and to discover who we are. It is about finding ourselves and our loved ones.

The effect of the media on our lives is not always for the good. She “believed she needed to be perfect to be loved.” What a sad attitude. The media portrays perfection as they see it but it is not real. Life is about being a lovely person on the inside and that will then shine out. Real life is chaotic and messy. We need to be real in all that we do.
