Christmas Embers by Chautona Havig

A Choice

Christmas Embers by Chautona Havig is a contemporary Christian novel that will really tear your heart and emotions to pieces. Chautona Havig writes sensitively about the hard hitting topic of adultery. She pulls no punches – adultery affects everyone – the couple, their children, friends, neighbourhood and church. The fall out is like a nuclear bomb – it’s ripples spread out, leaving no one untouched.

For some, this novel will be painful because it is your story. For some, this novel is a warning against complacency. For all readers, this novel will play with your emotions – you will need tissues as your heart breaks for all concerned.

The novel reveals there are different types of adulterers – the one off and the serial adulterer – but the pain on the family is still severe.

The Place We Met by Isabelle Broom

Speranza

The Place We Met by Isabelle Broom is a wonderful contemporary novel about love, life and loss. It is a compulsive read. With comprehensive descriptions, the reader ‘experiences’ the heat and delights of Italy’s Lake Como at Christmas and New Year.

Life is a series of meetings and partings. Some partings are harder than others but we cannot wallow in our hurtful past. “There can be no going back, so I have no choice but to move forwards.” Neither can we live in our childhood memories. No matter how wonderful, they will not keep us warm at night.

We all need good friends – friends who know us inside and out, who know the good and bad about us and love us anyway.

Running from the past is futile. If we do not deal with and face our hurts, we will never move forwards.

Probing by Various

Tick Tock

Probing is a Christian supernatural suspense. It is the third book in the Harbingers series but the reader really needs to read books one and two first as the action follows on.

Once more there are four stories, each from a different viewpoint and by a different author – Bill Myers, Frank Peretti, Angela Hunt and Alton Gansky. The stories are all unique and follow on chronologically.

The fight against evil forces continues. The novel shows it is always best to fight evil with prayer.

Faith in God can help give us the correct moral compass. “If it wasn’t for God, I’d never have the strength to do what is right.” We have to do right no matter what others around us are doing.

The Angel Paws Rescue Collection by Mimi Milan

Unique And Charming

The Angel Paws Rescue Collection by Mimi Milan is a delightful collection of three contemporary stories that are linked by characters, veterans, service animals and similar themes. All were unique and charming. I loved them.

Scent Of An Angel is a delightful contemporary romance. It focuses on the role of service dogs to help aid recovery, as well as the topics of disability and PTSD. The story is about an Afghan veteran who needs to focus on living again. The past is a place full of regrets and pain. Until we stop living there, life will never improve. The story was charming, touching and funny. I also loved the focus on Hunter, a large rescue dog with an even larger personality.
