Mighty To Save by Caryl McAdoo

Coming Home

Mighty To Save by Caryl McAdoo is the ninth book in the Texas Romance series but can be read as a stand-alone. It is a Christian historical romance and another beautiful offering from Caryl McAdoo which I loved.

The novel is set over two time periods covering the first world war and the mid nineteenth century. The latter the reader learns about via a novel one of the characters is writing. It is a very well thought out and planned literary device.

There are many Godly themes and the overriding message is – God is good. In the good times we can trust God. In the bad times we can trust God. Sometimes we do not understand why things happen but God is still good. Sometimes we feel that God is silent and that He has abandoned us but He hasn’t. God is still good and we can trust Him even when we don’t understand.

Being a Christian does not mean we will have a trouble free life. It does mean that God will never leave us and will walk alongside us in our troubles.

As Christians we have a duty to spread the Good News of Jesus everywhere we go. Caryl McAdoo shows that no-one needed this message more than the soldiers facing death in the trenches of World War I. The Good News is for everyone whether they are facing immediate death or not. We all need Jesus. Eternal life starts as soon as we say ‘yes’ to Him.

There is the difficult topic of slavery in the novel. Caryl McAdoo shows the need for us to always stand up against the wrongs in society. As Edmund Burke said “For evil to flourish, it just needs good men to do nothing.”

There is also the topic of alcoholism. Once alcohol gets a hold it can drag you down. You need to want to get better and you need a reason to get better.

The God of the Bible spoke through dreams. God today speaks through dreams and this is explored in the story.

Caryl McAdoo always writes beautifully. There was a particularly beautiful passage towards the end of the book that really ‘spoke’ to my heart. I will let you discover the passage for yourself.

A marvellous epic story and I cannot wait for the continuing saga in book ten.

I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

  1. i don’t really like war stories and all but undoubtedly they give the best message and providing hope is the best action from a person who wants his/her people to live happily. looking forward to reading more like it.
