Just The Way You Are by Pepper Basham

An Appalachian Girl In London

Just The Way You Are by Pepper Basham is the most delightful Christian contemporary romance and I loved it. It was totally charming and had a wonderful warm feel to it, with a strong Godly message.

There were many Godly themes including those of new beginnings, guilt and forgiveness. Forgiving other is hard. Forgiving ourselves impossible. “God has forgiven you, yet you are bound by this guilt.” Guilt tied to past actions can keep us locked in the past. We feel too bad to receive God’s forgiveness. “Don’t continue to work for a debt that’s already been paid.” The cross has covered all our sins. We do not need to work our way to forgiveness. Jesus paid the price in full. In him we can have a new beginning. “I can’t change who I was but God could change who I have become.”

Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney

Compulsive Reading

Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney is a contemporary psychological thriller which once I started I just could not put down.

The book is broken into three different time periods – ‘before’ in 1991, ‘then’ and a week later ‘now.’ The action alternates between them and the reader finds them self trying to join the dots.

What happened? What is the truth? Who can you trust? Just some of the questions that ran through my head as I read. All was revealed by the end of the book but I failed miserably in joining the dots correctly.

Sometimes I Lie was a compulsive read. The action was well paced, unlike my heart, whose beats sped up the more I read.

If Only by T.K.Chapin

Before And After

If Only by T.K. Chapin is a marvellous Christian thriller. I just could not put it down. Everything that T.K. Chapin writes is fabulous but this story tops it all. It really was an edge of your seat ride that had me guessing from the start. The action twisted this way and that throwing out a few red herrings along the way.

The novel is written in two different time periods and in the first person from two different viewpoints. There is a clear defining moment where the action is then ‘before’ and ‘after’ – all very cleverly done.

God is at the centre. “It’s in the silence and stillness that we can find God.” Sometimes we are so busy rushing around that we miss God but God is always there for us.

New York Actually by Sarah Morgan

Love And Life, Family And Friends

New York Actually by Sarah Morgan is a delightful and fun contemporary romantic read but with a serious message. I always love Sarah Morgan’s writings as they put a smile on my face and leave my heart feeling warm.

New York Actually is a wonderful read on so many levels. Characters from a previous novel were on the peripheral which made the read feel familiar from the start.

The characters were drawn realistically and with warmth – they included two big bouncy dogs who took on their own personalities and were as much a part of the story as the humans.
