Pulling Home by Mary Campisi

Secrets And Selfless Love

Pulling Home by Mary Campisi is a contemporary romance which will have the reader immersed from the start. It is a tale of selfless love. A love that makes sacrifices to protect those around. A love that spans the years. A love that never dies.

The novel has its secrets. Secrets that slowly unravel for both the characters and the reader. “Sooner or later the truth comes out.” The secrets were meant to protect. The truth may hurt but it needs to come out.

There is the topic of gossip within the story. “Dirt sells, whether it is true or not.” Gossip is wrong. Gossip has the power to destroy lives. “Idle chit chat ruins lives.” Mary Campisi shows how gossip needs to be stopped in its tracks.

The themes of identity and appearance are present in the novel. We all need to know who we are and where we come from. Sometimes our identity can mean the difference between life and death. Appearances may lie. We show one face to the world but underneath we are someone entirely different.

The novel deals with grief and loss. “Time passes and wounds heal… It doesn’t mean a person ever forgets.” Grief never leaves. One just has to get used to a new ‘normal.’

Forgiveness is another theme. Sometimes it means forgiving others. Sometimes it means forgiving ourselves which is harder to do.

Families are complicated. Families have fall outs but are bound by love. Families are loyal, and love and protect their members.

Pulling Home was a compulsive read. I could not put it down. I became immersed in the action and the lives of the characters. The plotline was intricate and well thought out. The characters were likable and realistic. I really loved Pulling Home. There were several ‘bedroom’ scenes which were not to my taste but they in no way detracted from the story, I just skipped over them.

An intricate, well written, well thought out compulsive read.

Pulling Home is part of the Spring Rain collection that releases on 14th March 2017.

Spring Rain is a collection of three totally unique stories that are united by similar themes. They are all compulsive reads and each delightful in their different ways. I loved each story and can highly recommend Spring Rain to warm your heart and speak to your soul.

I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
