Evergreen Tree by Jae Blessing

Listen To His Voice

Evergreen Tree by Jae Blessing is the most delightful Christian historical novel. It is set in 1870 following a group on men on a cattle drive west. The theme reminded me of the Israelites wandering in the wilderness – as they (and the leader of the cattle drive) wander their leader has his heart tuned in to God.

God still speaks into hearts today. He has “the ears of her heart.” We need to have our lives aligned with His so that when He whispers, we will hear Him.

Our earthly fathers may let us down but God never will. He can be trusted.

Lead character Liberty has had an awful father meaning that she no longer trusts men. She judges them all by her past experiences. She needs to demolish her prejudices and misconceptions. Not all men are bad. Around her heart is a wall. “I’ve built this wall myself.” This wall needs to come down and let life in.

All the characters have been well drawn and are realistic. The dialogue exchanges are warm and witty. I certainly laughed out loud throughout the book, especially at some of Liberty’s asides and at the name Greasy – you will have to read the book to find out why.

Evergreen Tree is an absolute delight. It is a charming light-hearted read that will warm your soul as the faithfulness of God is revealed.

I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
