If Cats Disappeared From The World by Genki Kawamura

True Treasure

If Cats Disappeared From The World by Genki Kawamura is a beautiful contemporary novel that will make you think and re-evaluate what is really important in your life.

The novel is reminiscent of Dr Faustus as a deal is done with the devil. The devil wants our focus to be on him and not on others or on God. The devil wants to keep us ‘me’ focused and worshipping at the altar of me, myself and I.

Within the story we learn how the world would function without various bits of stuff. Not unsurprisingly the world still turns without stuff. Stuff is just stuff. We buy it, collect it and hoard it but it’s just stuff.

The novel examines what is really important, what truly matters. People matter. Animals matter. What matters is how we live our lives. Will our deathbed be one of regrets for what we didn’t say or do? Or will we really live, with one eye on eternity? Will we value living breathing creatures? Or will we value stuff? Where is your treasure?

If Cats Disappeared From The World is beautifully written. The love shines through. It is a joy to read and to witness character development and awakening.

Unique and engaging.
