Dark Game by Rachel Lynch

No Limits

Dark Game by Rachel Lynch is a contemporary detective murder and crime novel. It is all the more chilling because it could be true.

Set in Cumbria, a beautiful landscape contrasts with ugly events. A cold case appears to be linked to modern day crimes. The reader quickly becomes embroiled in the underworld of trafficking, drugs, prostitution and murder. It is organised crime at the highest level and with far reaching arms. The plotline was intricate and well thought out but made for extremely uncomfortable reading at times.

For me, there was far too much detail in the ‘bedroom’ scenes which I skipped over. I do understand that it was there to add realism and some readers may want this, but I did not like it. Having said that, it did not spoil my enjoyment of the novel as it was an excellent serious crime story. I can imagine the story would translate well into a BBC drama.

The Husband by Aaron Daniel Behr

Powerful And Heartbreaking

The Husband by Aaron Daniel Behr is a powerful and heartbreaking contemporary Christian story. I found it beautiful in its simplicity. The words lodged in my heart and soul. Tissues were needed as my heart broke.

The suffering inflicted on the innocent ‘spoke’ to me of the suffering of another Innocent – One who was bruised for our iniquities, pierced for our transgressions. A great love nailed Him to the cross and kept Him there. A great love caused pain and suffering for the innocent in the story.

Jesus is at the centre. The question is – how much do we trust Him? And His plans? We need to listen to His voice. “A small, still voice told him not to do it. He ignored it.” When God whispers, we would be wise not to ignore Him but to obey and seek His peace.

Lawfully Loved by Jenna Brandt

Second Chances

Lawfully Loved by Jenna Brandt is a Christian historical western. It is part of the Lawkeepers series.

The story has the themes of new beginnings and second chances, and is grounded in God. There is a wonderful community feel to the novella. The reader can really ‘see’ the town and ‘feel’ the Founders Day atmosphere.

We all have a past. Sometimes it is a painful past which causes us to grow distant from God. God never pulls away from us. He waits patiently for us to return.

A sweet romance to brighten any afternoon.

Chasing Symmetry by Tempeste Blake

Lies, Secrets And Shattered Lives

Chasing Symmetry by Tempeste Blake is a marvellous nail-biting contemporary murder mystery that intrigues from the start.

Lives are easily shattered. The novel explores how a traumatic event can have far reaching effects. “He couldn’t stop blaming himself.” Unable to face the future except by looking through the bottom of a glass. Trauma changes lives.

Mothers are important. When mothers leave – either through choice or death – families are changed. Children need their mothers. Husbands need their wives. A mother is the glue that holds the family together.

Life can be cruel. Cancer robs us of our loved ones. Sometimes even before death as their personalities change. It is hard to watch as they slowly slip away.
