Angels Unaware by Rachel Good

Entertaining Angels

Angels Unaware by Rachel Good is an absolutely delightful contemporary Christian romance that really spoke to my heart.

Angels Unaware is delightful on two levels – on the surface it is a wonderful story, underneath it is the heart of God.

There are many messages and themes in the novel, but if you hear only one message, may it be – God’s will be done. So often we pray and try to impose our wills on God. We need to surrender to Him and pray Your will be done in all situations and at all times.

Other main themes are the interlinking ones of guilt and forgiveness. ” ‘Guilt won’t bring them back’… ‘I don’t deserve forgiveness.’ ” Forgiveness is available for all but too often we are so consumed by our guilt that we do not think we qualify for forgiveness. “He had no trouble forgiving others. It was himself he could never forgive.” We may need God’s help to forgive ourselves and receive the free gift of grace. “Help me to feel forgiven.”

Forgiving is not forgetting. Forgiving is not glossing over the wrongs. “Forgiving someone is not agreeing that they did no wrong.” Forgiving is freeing us to live the life God intended.

God is the God of the miraculous. “God could do miracles but he had a hard time believing.” God is still God and He can work miracles inspite of our unbelief.

The God of the Bible is the same God who works today. Some have entertained angels unaware in the Bible, so it follows that the same may happen today.

With God we can be a new creation. We are washed clean. The past is gone. God can give us a peace that transcends understanding. Our circumstances may be unchanged but with the spirit of God within us, we can face anything.

The novel is about friendship. We all need friends to help us through life. Life is not meant to be done in isolation. Likewise Christians need each other to strengthen themselves in their Christian walk so it is essential to meet corporately in church to build each other up.

Understanding and reading the Bible, God’s word is of vital importance. The Bible is God’s manual for life – sixty six books containing all the answers to all of life’s questions.

I really loved Angels Unaware. I ‘felt’ as if God was massaging my soul as I immersed myself in its pages. There were life lessons to be learnt as well as being a wonderful, warm story. I am sorry that the novel has ended but so pleased to know it is book one in the Hope Chapel series. I cannot wait for book two.

Totally delightful.

I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
