Marie And Mr Bee by Margaret Welwood

Delightful

Mr BeeMarie And Mr Bee by Margaret Welwood and illustrated by Coralie Rycroft is an absolutely perfect book for little ones. It is based on Proverbs 12:14b. It is delightful.

The storyline is a simple one encouraging children to work before doing their chores. It is also one of supporting others. The pages are repetitive encouraging children to learn not only the message but also helping them to read and recognise words.

The simple story is beautifully illustrated. The animal characters are delightfully drawn. The main character Marie is in a wheelchair. I loved this as it shows children that people with disabilities are perfectly able to participate in life. The reader does not know why Marie is in a chair so this can open up a conversation about differences and why children may be in a chair.

Included at the back of the book, is Marie’s pancake recipe. This is another great touch as interaction between parent and child can continue as an activity after the book is read.

I thought Marie And Mr Bee was absolutely delightful. It’s message will be understood even by the very young. It’s a perfect story to read to the under fives. It has the dual purpose that early readers will be able to enjoy it themselves. I would love to see Marie And Mr Bee as the start of a series.

Delightful and educational.
I received this book for free in exchange for a fair and honest review.  No monetary compensation was received and all views expressed are my own.
