Doom Watch by David Burnell is a contemporary crime novel set in Padstow. It is the first book in A Cornish Conundrum series.

Following a stag night, a torso is uncovered. It is up to the local and county police, and the reader to uncover the identity of the victim and the perpetrator.

A normally sleepy village reveals some surprising activities.

The characters were well drawn and realistic. The reader ‘felt’ included in the action. This was strengthened by my familiarity with the area, having holidayed there in the past.

Doom Watch would be perfect as an early evening television drama along similar lines to Midsommer Murders.
