My Dad by Julia Wilson

A Poem For Father’s Day

My Dad was always there for me

Trips to Warley Woods

Kicking through the leaves in the autumn

Saturdays at Nanny’s

A night time rendition of Edelweiss

Never a cross word

Always ready to play.

As I grew older

Saturday nights at Brandon

Watching speedway the length and breadth of the country

Holidays by the sea

And in the Dales.

And then marriage and children

Dad becomes Grandad

Who becomes The Chief

Ready to kick a ball

Tell tales of long ago

And then… a great Grandad

But always

To me… my Dad

And I love him.
