The Visiting Moon by Celia Furse

Nostalgic

The Visiting Moon by Celia Furse is a Christmas historical novel. Written in 1955 but set in Victorian times, the reader really is transported back to a bygone era. With exquisite illustrations by Charles Stewart, the reader is in for a real treat.

Set over the two weeks from Christmas Eve, the extended family celebrates at Grandmama’s house. The action is seen through the eyes of eleven year old Antonia but written in the third person. The reader ‘experiences’ all the Christmas traditions from decorating the house to skating to a play. It is all very delightful and nostalgic.

To add to the Christmas atmosphere there is snow and ice. Seeing the world through the eyes of a child makes the whole thing rather magical.

A perfectly delightful read to evoke Christmas in your heart whatever the time of year.
