A Conspiracy Of Breath by LaTayne C Scott is a Christian historical novel. It is set in the first century and explores life from the point of view of Priscilla. Whilst this is a work of fiction, Priscilla is a real character from the Bible. LaTayne Scott has imagined life from a Christian woman’s viewpoint and written the novel in the first person so the reader really gets the flavour of life.
Life was dangerous for Christians. It was a time of persecution. Women were seen as second class citizens so to be a Christian woman who was not afraid to speak out, was particularly dangerous.
LaTayne Scott has really bought Biblical happenings to life in her novel. Whilst it is all her imagination, the reader ‘feels’ familiar with the setting and the happenings. Biblical passages exist alongside the main narrative.
The novel shows the faithfulness and bravery of believers. “I knew he would not deny the Name.” It was an exciting time to become a Christian and to meet people who had known the physical Jesus.
The Bible comes to life in this marvellous novel as it is full of familiar Biblical figures.
A Conspiracy Of Breath is not meant to be read instead of the Bible but alongside it. It is a comprehensive read which will awaken emotions within the reader. I really enjoyed it.
I want to leave you with my favourite quote which really says it all:
“It is Jesus
It has always been Jesus
And it will always be Jesus.”
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
