An Angel In Disguise
The Starlight Inn by Lucie Ulrich is a contemporary Christian romance and the first book in the Tillie Spencer Novella series. As soon as I began reading, I knew I was in for a real treat. The warmth of the novella penetrated my soul as I settled down to immerse myself in the story.
Some books are devoured. The Starlight Inn was a book to savour. I sat back and let the words and action speak to my heart.
The characters were all wonderfully drawn. I ‘felt’ like I was meeting new friends. Tillie had a real ethereal quality to her. She seemed to know who needed what and when and why. “God knew where she needed to be and why.” Tillie just took up lodging in my heart.
The novella is very much God focused. “The Lord knows where to send people looking for shelter.” Keeping one’s eyes and ears tuned in to the Lord will guarantee you are in the right place.
Life is not all plain sailing for Christians, they have family troubles and difficult decisions to make too. However God’s peace can be found in the midst of life’s hard times.
Ella never feels ‘good enough’ for her father. She continually feels she is a disappointment and expects little from him. The reader is reminded that God is our perfect Father. We will never be ‘good enough’ for Him and we do not need to work for His approval. God loves us in whatever state we come to Him. We are saved by His grace and not our effort.
The Starlight Inn seems to be an oasis, not only in a white out snow storm but also from the storms of life too. People are healed in the inn partly due to the loving, caring nature of the owners Nick and Fran.
The Starlight Inn was such a delightful novella. I loved it. It made me feel warm and loved as a reader. I cannot wait for book two.
A warm, feel-good novella.
