On My Way Home by Deborah Armin

The Woman At The Well

On My Way Home by Deborah Armin is the true account of one woman’s search to fill the God-shaped hole inside her.

This book is Deborah Armin’s story from the start. The reader hears about her abusive childhood, her disastrous relationships and her search to belong. Filling her life with everything from New Age to Reike to astrology, Deborah Armin tried it all before she finally turned to Jesus.

Having found Jesus, Deborah Armin realised “it was not enough to keep repeating the patterns of the past.” God can break our strongholds. We need to fix our eyes on Jesus and do life His way. Jesus brings freedom and life in all its fullness.

We need to listen to the right voices. “You’re a loser! You’re alone. You’re trash.” This is the voice of the enemy. God’s voice is always life affirming and He will never leave us alone.

The Adornment Two by Adah Doebele

The Father’s Heart And Life Lessons

The Adornment Two by Adah Doebele is a book written to glorify God. The reader gets glimpses into Adah Doebele’s life as well as life lessons of God. Everything that is said is backed up with scripture. This book certainly gives God the glory.

Adah Doebele writes of God’s plans. He has a plan for everyone who calls on His name. “God had a plan for my brokenness.” No one is ever excluded from God’s love.

We need to listen for God’s call on our lives. “God whispers more often than He yells.” We cannot hear Him if other voices are drowning Him out. We need to silence all other voices but God’s.

The Adornment One by Adah Doebele

How Big Is Your Box?

The Adornment One by Adah Doebele is a personal testimony. Born in Kenya, Adah Doebele relates her story from the start. It is a story that will bring tears to your eyes. She was seen as ‘worthless’ in her mother’s eyes and subjected to awful acts of cruelty. As a Mum living in the UK, I was horrified and appalled at the treatment of a young girl.

Adah Doebele’s story through her teenage years does not improve. Everyone seems to put on her and bring her down. It is a tragic tale but there are bright spots – giving birth to a daughter. “I had… a reason to live.” All her energies were placed into bringing up and loving her children. She was a good mother in spite of having a terrible role model in her own.

Forgiveness is a thread running throughout. “Forgiving is easier for me than begrudging.” Life has not made Adah Doebele bitter.

Gathering Courage by T.A McMullin

Acts Of Kindness

Gathering Courage by T.A McMullin is a heartfelt account of the journey through adoption, fostering and life. Terry McMullin is honest with her highs and lows, her loves, her losses and her constant faith in a God who loves her unconditionally.

Born in the Edna Gladney home in Texas, I immediately connected with Terry’s story. I have seen the film Blossoms In The Dust (Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon) that tells the story of Edna Gladney. I ‘saw’ Terry for the darling little baby she was. In making this connection, Gathering Courage really came alive for me. It became personal. I ‘felt’ deeply for all that Terry went through.

Terry McMullin writes about her struggles with dyslexia – unknown in her childhood so she was labelled ‘stupid.’ There is a marvellous section on dyslexia saying what it is and what it isn’t. It’s very powerful.
