Christmas In A Book
Secrets Of A Winter Escape by Sue Moorcroft is a very charming festive offering. It really does feel like Christmas in a book – with snow falling, festive stalls and good food and drink, plus the company of family who love.
The setting is an Italian village on the shores of the sea. There is everything and more to make the reader want to jump inside the pages and experience a winter wonderland.
Various characters within the book face job loss. “Losing my job… Then I was rudderless.” We are more than our jobs. They do not have to define us. Though devastating, our identities are in our characters and the love and kindness that we spread.
We witness the power of the media to either build up or tear down. A character has been unfairly portrayed by bad publicity from his ex – but with the correct handling, social media can correctly, and fairly represent his true nature.
There is a physical injury within the novel, as well as those who are mentally scarred. Good, caring hearts help with the healing of those who fear letting others in. People can be trusted.
All the characters were well drawn, believable and likable.
I thoroughly enjoyed Secrets Of A Winter Escape. It is the perfect read for a grey autumnal day.
I received a free copy via Rachel’s Random Resources for a blog tour. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.
A word of caution: there are a few ‘bedroom’ scenes with far too much detail for my liking. I just skipped over those scenes. Others may want to do the same. It did not detract from my overall enjoyment of the book.

Secrets of a Winter Escape
Will this be a Christmas to remember?
Christmas should be the most wonderful time of year. But for Erin, who’s just lost the job that she loves, it’s anything but. Down on her luck, the only gift she wants is escape…
So, Erin returns to Lake Como, home to the pensione she inherited from the grandmother she never met. The city sparkles with the magic of the season, and the guests provide a welcome distraction from the life that Erin has left behind.
As the snow begins to fall, Erin finds herself staying in the room next door to Caleb, an injured footballer who’s eager to avoid the prying eyes of the press. With emotional baggage bigger than his suitcases, he’s a complication that her bruised heart doesn’t need. But when Caleb lights Erin up like Como’s illuminations, will she admit that all she wants for Christmas is him?
