So Thankful by Julia Wilson

What A Year

LordOn 30th August 2015 in the early hours of the morning, my church caught fire and was completely destroyed. The auditorium was gone along with offices, the coffee shop, hair salon. We awoke to the news via Facebook that there had been a fire and church was cancelled. As the pictures emerged and there was a report on the local news on TV, so it seemed very bleak.

It was so upsetting to have your church gone. To me it felt like God had gone too. I had so many memories of meeting God in that building, my baptism, my daughter’s baptism. Tears had been shed, Jesus had been worshipped. Good times, bad times… so many memories. As our pastor later said “Buildings don’t change people but what happens in them does.” What an awful day.

One Of The Few by Jason B Ladd

Transforming Lives

OneOne Of The Few by Jason B Ladd is Christian non-fiction. It is an amazing book as Jason Ladd unpacks Christianity and reveals his journey as he moved “from apathy to inquiry.” Within the book Jason Ladd covers topics such as suffering, evil, porn, faith, belief, going to church and much more. One Of The Few really is a comprehensive guide to the Christian faith that will appeal to both Christians and those searching for the answer to the question “Do you know what you believe?”

Jason Ladd is a U.S. Marine. Within his book he explains life as a marine and the parallels with the Christian faith. Jason Ladd did not grow up in a Christian family. As a marine he asked the question “Why would a good person like me need Jesus?” Everyone needs Jesus. He is not a crutch for the weak. He is the Saviour of the world. Jason Ladd believes as much as he was seeking God, “God was seeking me.”

Service Tails by Ace Collins

Loyal And Inspiring

ServiceService Tails by Ace Collins is an inspiring book with tales about service dogs. Service dogs are not just working dogs, they are loyal companions who really do go the extra mile.

Before service dogs, some people with disabilities were unable to live full lives, being trapped within their own four walls. A service dog opens up lives to new possibilities. “You are not tied to the dog, you are freed by it.” For the blind, their dogs are their eyes, steering them out of danger.

All the dogs mentioned really seem to possess a sixth sense when it comes to their owners and impending danger. They really are life savers, with one dog literally giving his life for his owners. “She was there to offer love and service.”

The Autobiography Of Martin Luther King jr by Clayborne Carson

An Incredible Man Of God

MLKThe Autobiography Of Martin Luther King jr by Clayborne Carson is an amazing read. Clayborne Carson has taken Martin Luther King’s notes, speeches etc and turned them in to a powerful read about Martin Luther King’s life from the cradle to the grave.

Martin Luther King was a fighter. He fought using love. Gandhi influenced him to take the path of non violence. Gandhi resisted with love not hate. “An eye for an eye just succeeds in making the whole world blind.” Martin Luther King inspired thousands of Negroes to take the same path. They had a hope that there would be change. They had a love for each other and for all mankind.

Martin Luther King was the son. grandson and great grandson of a preacher. He knew God and he knew that he must not take his focus off Him. “Keep Martin Luther King in the background and God in the foreground… You are a channel of the gospel and not the source.” Wise words from Martin Luther King.
